After dedicating much of his life to Jehovah's Witnesses both as an elder and a bethelite, Matthew's doubts about the organization threatened to exile him from his cherished family. But he was to learn that most of them already felt the same.

Though I am deeply touched by the considerable interest in my work, I kindly ask that viewers do NOT try to contact me using Facebook. I very rarely use Facebook as a means of communicating with people and I have unfortunately received hostility from people whose Facebook messages have gone unanswered. If you send a voicemail or JW Watch email ([email protected]) and your request is urgent, either myself or someone else will attempt to respond. Otherwise, please understand that my time is stretched between my work as an activist and my private life, including my responsibilities as a father and husband. As much as I would like to make myself available to each and every person who reaches out to me, this will only occasionally be possible. I very much appreciate your understanding.

  • This is my dad. It’s kinda surreal to see this interview. We’ve come so far. Love this so much. Thank you for giving my dad a chance to share his story Lloyd!!!
  • This is also my dad, I think a lot of those drives we went on. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you can’t think for yourself, or even have a question. If you have a question, ask it, we should be able to do that without the fear of ostracism. ❤ I love the support I received over the last year and a half.♥️

Thank you for having Matthew on Lloyd. Great interview and I am so happy that he stands by his children and whole family for that matter. The number one phrase that I hear elders say that leave is "I just can't do this anymore." That tells me something. Thanks Lloyd and thanks Matthew for sharing your story.
  • Love to Matthew! What an authentic, nice person. Thanks for sharing your story
  • One of the best types of critical jw videos is the personal testimony. This was a good example. Thank you.
  • @cryptojedii
I would rather eat a bowl of nails covered in hot sauce than go back to that cult. Thanks for yet another great interview, Lloyd!!
  • @Kathyco96
Great interview 👏👏my husband and I left this cult October 2021 . Matthew williams welcome to freedom 👏👏
  • @StefWokeUp
This was so great! Thank you Matthew for sharing your story. We probably know some of the same people because I have JW family in the Kansas City area and I know JWs in Springville. Cheers to us that made it out at our age. My husband and I were 49 and 50 when we woke up last year. 🥂
  • @Angie-ht2gi
Really enjoyed this interview! Wish I had a dad like this when coming out of the jw cult. my PIMI biological father hasn’t spoken to me in 8 years and now I consider him dead to me.
  • @EmiSuess
This is an incredible father. My dad was the last one to know I was gay. And still doesn't know I'm no longer a Christian. I can't imagine the sort of openness he must have expressed with them their entire lives to foster that type of love and acceptance.

I told my JW mother I was done in early 1991. I was disfellowshipped a month later. I was 16 when I was baptized in 1983. I stopped attending meetings in 1985. I was able to fade until I was 24 in 1991. It was ironic that R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion" was a big hit in 1991 too. It became my anthem, and still is to this day. The lyrics really fit me, and what this cult did to my relationship with my JW mother. I think it's a good song for all ex-JW's, IMO.
  • When a JW came to me to return to Jehovah in 2016, I told her about the pedophiles being the reason I quit six years before. She told me I could still have eternal life by going to another hall. I actually wasted a moment picturing that horror and the triggers. Pedophiles bounce from one congregation to the next. Even if I didn't see them there, it wouldn't be okay to sit in another hall with hidden criminals. I wouldn't feel better just because I didn't know them and the children the elders tortured to protect the Watchtower.

Pardon my expression...but that was one hell of a good interview! Mathew...you're a great person...a great parent and a great husband. May God continue to bless you & yours! Thank you too Lloyd for this interview. I do look forward to hearing from your daughter, son & wife in future interviews
  • Great interview, Matt! So proud of you, and I'm honored to call you a friend and a fellow activist!! (Soon to be) 😅
  • @MouseQueso
This was a great Interview. Matt seems like a really great role model of a dad
  • What a great interview, in both my judicial cases it ended up those elders had been up to no good and were df not long after. Allways made me wonder how an earth did they make a decision on my case if supposedly they had jehovahs spirit..it did not make sense to me ..slowely i started to waken after that.
  • I’m hoping that one of PIMO’s at bethel can spill the tea as to what happened with Tony tight pants…
