The part that sounds like "church prayer" is a prayer from the sheeps point of view. "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want He makes me down to lie Through pastures green he leadeth me the silent waters by With bright knives he releaseth my soul He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places He converteth me to lamb cutlets For lo, he hath great power and great hunger When cometh the day we lowly ones Through quiet reflection and great dedication Master the art of karate Lo, we shall rise up And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water." Pink Floyd is amazing!
  • Its great to see a youngster discovering what us oldies already knew, Pink Floyd is one of the greatest bands/songwriters to ever be!

So the "long note" you're hearing is actually Roger's vocals fading out and being blended with Rick on the synthesizer. It's perfectly mixed so you can't tell where his voice ends and the synth begins.

Another generation of Pink Floyd fans, so cool.

There will never be another Pink Floyd in our lifetime
  • David’s guitar is both menacing and frantic at the same time, BRAVO DAVE!!!
  • Nice! Yes, those were keyboards. Richard shines on keyboards. He's a keyboard master. In Welcome to the machine, his keyboards cut through the heart with such pain that you cannot forget it. Of course with all the other Pink Floyd candies. This is definitely a song you should be reacting to next.
  • I absolutely love when Roger's long vocal note transitions into the synth note and then goes all Space Invaders.
  • The original working title of this song was Raving and Drooling. They were playing this live as early as 1974, almost 3 years before Animals was released.

Roger Waters was inspired by George Orwell's book "Animal Farm", while recording the "Animals" album. At the end of this song Roger Waters is basically saying all human beings are essentially the same. Power corrupts. Notice how the sheep had an uprising and killed the dogs. They thought themselves became the new dogs and began to abuse the weaker.
  • The "prayer" you hear is Roger Waters' twisted version of the Lord's Prayer. Very dark. The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want He makes me down to lie Through pastures green He leadeth me the silent waters by With bright knives he releaseth my soul He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places He converteth me to lamb cutlets For lo, He hath great power, and great hunger When cometh the day we lowly ones Through quiet reflection, and great dedication Master the art of karate Lo, we shall rise up And then we'll make the bugger's eyes water.

I worked across road from battersea power station in stewart rd and waiting for bus to go home i saw helicopters chasing a 40 ft pig that got loose i didnt know it was my favorite group until purchased album a year later.
  • Animals is a concept album based on the sociopolitical atmoshere in the mid 70s, loosley based on George Orwells animal farm novel

I've seen Pink Floyd four times in three different decades and the most mind-blowing concert was the one in 1977 called the In the flesh tour!! They played all of Animals took a short break and then played all of Wish You Were Here and then came out and played half of Dark Side of The Moon for their encore with the original four members!!! I saw at least two dozen people having to be hauled out from passing out or freaking out because of the intensity of the visuals the lights and the music!! That concert is one of about 100 I've seen in my life and the most amazing one I've seen and the only one where my wife and I drove all the way home and didn't say a word!!! Some of the people that were hauled out were freaking out because they had taken acid and we're not ready for what was about to happen!!
  • Stacey you will never get tired of listening to Floyd now you have started to explore their music. I have been listening to them since the sixties, I'm now 67yrs old and haven't ever stopped and have listened to all songs over and over the years and never got tired of doing so, and each time it's like the very first time, their songs are timeless. And even on the day of my funeral after I pass away comfortably numb and wish you were here will be played at my funeral.

" get out of the road if you wanna grow old..." love that line 😉
