Danheim -- Atgeir (Fan Video)

Published 2020-11-03
For someone i will love forever.. A beautiful Old Norse song and a little love story, in the midst of a viking civil war...
Never stop fighting for a better world, for yourself, and the ones you love !!
SHIELDS UP!!!! And bravely forward we go....: )

An atgeir, sometimes called a "mail-piercer" or "hewing-spear", was a type of polearm in use in Viking Age Scandinavia.
Footage from 'Vikings' S05 Ep8
Halfdan and Harald sing before battle:
"Þat mælti mín móðir,
at mér skyldi kaupa
fley ok fagrar árar,
fara á brott með víkingum,
standa upp í stafni,
stýra dýrum knerri,
halda svá til hafnar
hǫggva mann ok annan.

*********
Thus counselled my mother,
For me should they purchase
A galley and good oars
To go forth with Vikings
So may I high-standing,
A noble barque steering,
Hold course for the haven,
Hew down many foemen.

I loved this scene so much in the show, so powerful! I remember watching it for the first time, inspires me so much for my own music as well.

They cut this scene out of the Amazon version, and I don’t understand why.
