This juicer is from the early 1950s and in the style of the Atomic Age. It looks like it came right out of the Jetsons. The top of the juicer was badly frosted with scratches and took a long time to make it look nice again. In the process, I sanded/polished though most of the original chrome – because of this, I’ll never be able to get it to a mirror finish. I got close though.

What do you think?

Wow!!! You are a magician! Or a miracle worker!!! That is amazing. I never thought you could renew the chrome/metal like that. Came across this because I would like a juice o mat and I wondered about repainting it if I do get one. But this was a zillion times greater than I could imagine for restoration. You, are a patient man! That was just BEAUTIFUL! I would love that for my limes and lemons. I know this was three years ago, but congrats on a job more than well done!!!

The turquoise looks period correct and much nicer than the white. I like it, well done, Steven!
  • My mother-in-law gave me the same juicer in the box! She received it as a wedding present. Mine is not painted but has a chrome finish. She always used frozen juice and having 9 kids I think that was the easier option. I use it often, when I find small orange are on sale. Large ones are hard to process, the navel oranges have thick peels also making it difficult. I did grease it with a food grade lub made for kitchen tools. Thank you for the video, I found it very helpful. I will get my dremil out for a deep clean and lub next time.
  • It is harder to squeeze oranges now than it was in 1948 because orange had thinner skins then. The orange you used was bred, if that is the correct word, to have thick skin so that they are less likely to be damaged during shipping. I learned this at the Sarasota County Fair years ago. People only drank a tiny "juice" glass of orange juice every morning. Now, we drink processed orange juice in big glasses. In 1948, orange juice was squeezed from real oranges before breakfast. Love the video and your channel.
  • My wife has this juicer that belonged to her grandmother. My wife is almost 60 and our juicer is in almost perfect condition. Just used it for the first time in 5 years!.

I love your sense of history! That's a great video.
  • I used this same juicer when I was at grandmothers house in Redding CA. This gave me some great memories. Thank you for this video. Im now looking for one.

Don't touch it with bare fingers after you've acetoned it. the oil on your skin can cause deep rust under the paint later and cause imperfections in the coat as well. Nice restore! i love it.

Amazing video can’t wait to give this restoration a shot
  • I think Mrs. Fix will know what you did in that oven the second she walks in the house. Keep working on lighting. You'll get it. I have problems with that myself. =) So darned hard, that lighting. I just LOVE the color you chose. I'm not a juice fan either but it sure is a good looking piece.
