United is in the process of renovating the interiors of many of their planes with modern amenities like large overhead bins, better Wi-Fi, and in seat entertainment. But there's a whole group of very old planes that are not getting the upgrade. Why should you try and avoid the 777-200? Let's find out on these flights between Chicago, Denver, and Orlando.

I'm a Delta loyalist and feel the same way about their 763's and 738's. These planes really tarnish Delta's otherwise excellent on board experience, but they're not quite as bad as this United 777! Tbh I rarely find myself on United and thought they were further along with their new cabin rollouts.

On shorter flights, the B777 is actually optimal for business class (marketed as domestic First Class). True, the 2-4-2 configuration is tight, but the fact that the seats go lie-flat cannot be complained about in that scenario. However, it can be agreed that no seatback IFE in Economy is pretty disastrous.

From what I can tell United is planning on replacing them which is why their is no planned renovation. They really do suck though. Luckily the 787-10 has taken over some routes

Idk. I just flew a UA 773 to Europe in Premium, and it was great! On the flight home, I got a 763 (literally the oldest one in their fleet), but I paid for Economy Extra Legroom, and it was fantastic! Maybe I just got lucky.

Why did I watch this video..lol. Im planning a flight on one of these in a few weeks
  • Any flight that gets you there without crashing is a good flight!.....So,stop moaning and complaining.........❀
  • Don’t fly if you’re going to be this way. Be happy you got to fly.
  • Even other US carriers, who still have these old 777-200s still flying with them, has done even a WAY BETTER JOB than United keeping these older 200/200ERs still looking fresh and modern, despite them being more than 25 years old!! American Airlines, who's been flying the 200ER since 1999, has a retrofitted cabin now on all 777-200ERs, even if the 200ER retrofit happened about 8-9 years ago, the cabin still looks fresh, even by today's standards with an ample IFE seat back screen, and mood lightning. AA really did an excellent job hiding the age of the 200ER. Delta (even though they retired all their 777-200s back in 2020) has made the planes look modern and fresh in 2018-2019 on their 200ERs and LRs with the new Delta One seats, and it received positive feedback, and they also did an excellent job hiding the age of their aircraft as well, too back they retired them all early, since the retrofit was only done 1-2 years before COVID, but it wasn't their fault. I wish United really put their new cabins on ALL 777-200s no matter the age!

How comfortable were the seats? I remember when United had the 3-3-3 configuration in economy on the 777-200/200ERs.

to be fair, the PW grounding is completely on PW, not the fault of United or Boeing
  • I love the United Club fly lounge in Denver. You can usually see me stock up on lots of snacks and drinks every time I go. To the point my carry on bag is completely full so I don’t really have to do much grocery shopping when I get home. I hope to try the new United Club in Chicago soon too. I do like how cheap the WiFi is though. Never really had many issues with it when I have bought it in the past

Flew on 777-200 to and from my vacation this summer in economy plus. To my destination it had the screen, charger ports and other newer stuff and going back home it only had the chargers and was still economy plus so it depends on plane age what it has I guess. (Only plane trouble was the cargo hull before the flight)
  • @zoebells767
Those things are so awful. Even first class has middle seats! Some of the domestic ones do have IFE though.

Just one more reason why I love living in Seattle...Alaska Airlines.

thanks for saving me from booking mco--msp one way on UA! now I found out that mco-ord route was one of the routes this plane flies, its despicable it has no ife/avod, the only reason i wanted to fly on ua is because I've never been on a 777 in my life but i guess i'll steer clear
  • @ilovethe777
It’s a good review you just sound so ungrateful to be flying and especially on a 777 on a domestic route I know it’s not the best service but it’s still not the worst
