The demand for health supplements in Malaysia is soaring, with local brands and entrepreneurs making significant strides and profits. But there are side effects of this demand: An ecommerce marketplace for health products plagued by misleading claims and, in some cases, the illegal sale of unauthorised products.

One factor driving this growth is a digital marketing strategy that has outpaced the authorities' ability to regulate the industry. Undercover Asia explores the impact of ecommerce tactics such as influencer marketing and dropshipping. We also dive deep into the source by investigating the cottage industry supporting the manufacturing and production of these supplements.

Good job CNA. Now everyone should help spread this documentary. Help to avoid your family, relatives, and friends from becoming victims.

I don’t take any supplements recommended by influencer. Just make it easy, buy it from proper pharmacy.

To see him scamming people while living lavishly while lots of Malaysians are even struggling to get by day really pisses me off. Plus, how arrogantly he was when asked for overclaiming his products.

Dear CNA, appreciate if you guys can add Malay subtitles for all the elderly so that they will understand because most of the time they are the one who becomes the victim of those overclaim pills. 😖 I can't even advise my mom. I used to say that all those promotions by celebrities are paid. But my mom keeps insisting saying that "Tau tapi takkanlah artis tu nak jadi duta barang yang tak elok. Jatuh la reputasi dia" 🤧. I don't even know what to say at this point. Please add subtitles so that I can share this with my mom. 🙏🏻

Hi. Malaysian here. I still can’t comprehend how people can actually look up to this and substitute proper healthcare by real doctors and pharmacists for this. I hope everyone will realize how dangerous it actually is

Dr Ahmad Tarmizi is true. The only way to stop this is to find the root cause. We have to educate our parents, friends, children, neighbors that they don't have to depend on supplements to have a fair skin and a healthy body. If there is no demand on this types of supplements, no entrepreneurs would even wiling to risk their capital in producing these products.

I live by 1 simple rule: 'If it's too good to be true, then it probably is.'

I was sourcing for a shampoo manufacturer once years ago and found this large well known one located in Shah Alam. A chemist from the firm was assigned to me. She said they could do any fragrance and formulations. I can then also boast that mt shampoo have additives too like aloe vera and vitamin E. I asked "Vitamin E in shampoo? Isn't that expensive?" Her reply was "No, no.. we use very little. Even 1 drop inside every bottle and it is not wrong to say there's vitamin E in there, right??" 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

I have no choice but to “ketuk” my own head after listening Alif Shukri’s justification for over claiming the benefits of his products
  • @cloudstrife112
Seen too many people hospitalised for liver or kidney injuries from these products. Hope one day these scammers get their fair share from their deeds.

I swear I blocked all these "influencers" and don't click their "news" so this is new to me... No wonder the other day my mom asked me to buy her pink salt.

Many health supplements (and beauty products for that matter) sold in Malaysia unfortunately don't go through Health Ministry's approval process. Some may pose serious health hazards especially those produced from ingredients that are not well known or well tested as efficacious. To compound the situation, they may be made by a random manufacturer in a random third world country, then sourced and repacked with lots of marketing gimmicks by the Malaysian entrepreneurs, and sold to unsuspecting and less than knowledgeable public.

please CNA, add subtitle in Chinese, Tamil and other native Malaysian languages so we Malaysian can share this informative video to gullible malaysians. Mostly elder generation who believe these people will not lie
