How to Clean a Perch - Quick, Easy, and No Mess!

Published 2021-03-08
This is a combination of methods that I have seen over the years. It is a variation of the “Costa Style” “How to clean a perch in 10 seconds” with some slight variations that I picked up from my In-Laws. This is one of the cleanest and easiest methods I’ve used. Comment below and let me know how you clean perch. If you have any videos fee free to share the link. I would love to see how others like to do it.

That's a pretty cool way of doin a fish. I've never seen it like that. But I like my boneless fillets.
  • Awesome!! And now I know how to clean Perch, THANKS Tree stand Man!!🥰
  • this method does work well and I use it often. A pair of gloves does help tremendously with holding the fish and pulling the fins though. Even one glove on one hand just for handling and pulling the fins helps and using the ungloved hand to separate the skin. The gloved hand really helps.

Thank you so much. I think you just saved me a lot of time here. I hope my finger are up to the task. Have a great day.
  • Wow really cool, never seen it done this way. I'll be going for some perch, crappie and smallmouth tomorrow. If I get any nice ones or jumbo perch like that one I'll try this. I usually get some nice ones at this Reservoir.

Caught my first 4 Perch yesterday and i was so mad about those scales 😂 Smoked them now because of that, but thats a really good way to get the fillet
  • Well done. After you cut those ribs with the scissors, is there any bones left in the actual filets that need to be concerned of? or does cutting those ribs remove them all?
  • Thanks my boyfriend caught a bunch of small ones and he use a fork to scale. It got all the scales in my backyard on the ground. I asked him to remove the skin and he said he likes to fry it with the skin on. I don’t think I wanna try it

We use an electric filet knife and a skinzit. Fast and bone free. Your method is pretty cool. No right or wrong way. Whatever you like.

todays lesson: new way to clean a fish. that is very cool, i usually filet them. I'll give it a try and I'll let you know how it went. thanks for the tutorial.
  • Would you consider doing a cooking/eating video with those fish? I assume you do not eat those bones, and, I personally refuse to pick through cooked fish to remove them, so I fillet all of mine. I'd like to see how you handle them after they come out of the fryer please? i can always learn something new! Thanks in advance!!
  • This is a very good way of cleaning perch so you get the maximum of meat off of it after you cook it all you have to do is just pull the rib out kind of looks like a centipede.
