I run with this system and a Haversack paired with my bedroll pantry for 3-4 days at a time. Really love it when you teach things like this.
  • $275 for the tarp, x 2 $550, 100% Wool Queen Blanket $220. That makes an $800 bedroll. I'll bet you can get a really, really good sleeping bag for a bit less. And throw in a pad for $15. I love this show, especially the cooking and the string and rope tying has been helpful. But good grief, an $800 bed roll.

That bedroll looks similar to what we would carry on our saddles or pack horses (when we used them) in my younger years, while working on ranches in Montana when we were going to be away from the bunkhouse for a few days. For colder weather we would add a second blanket, the fold at the bottom was between 18" and 2' so we could store a change of clothes and other articles, which added warmth to your feet and increased the girth of the roll, which at times made it cumbersome for tying to a saddle . The top usually had 2 to 3 ft of extra length so you could fold it down to cover your head or use a few sticks to make a lean-to style roof that just covered enough of the top to keep the weather off of you. Some had leather thongs or straps with buckles, sewed on, for closures about every 2' where the overlaps were and the fold on the bottom also had straps that connected it to the body, most did not. The canvas was usually 6 to 7 ft wide and 10 to 11 ft long. The way that you designed those tarps to work together or separately, makes me wish that I had thought about your design 50 yrs ago as it is so much more convenient for carrying and working with. I still prefer a good bedroll to a sleeping bag, so I am going to have to look into getting a few sets of those tarps. Thanks for the videos and the ingenuity you put into that design.
  • I'm grateful to you for teaching me how to roll a proper bedroll and set up the tarp tent. You never know when it'll come in handy. It pays to be prepared. Thank you so much for all of your videos. I always learn something useful and important to know.
  • Love that little woodstove, I have had the very same one for 25 plus years.
  • Excellent gear, sharing of experienced knowledge and skills, and character to boot! I appreciate the support for US manufacturing. We need more of it. Thank you 😊
  • Man that thing looks like it'd be nice and warm not to mention waterproof nice job Dave. Stay vigilant!

Dave that's an awesome bedroom set up! I love the layers of insulation that you were able to get out of your configuration. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us and keep the great content coming brother!!

You should start Manufacturing the cold handle pan in multiple sizes like the one in this video. I have been looking for a nice 8-in cold handle pan for myself. Always enjoy the videos keep up the good work.
  • Nice fabric. Excellent carry system. Add in a tshirt, leggings or thermal pant, socks, hat and good to go. And I'd bet if you needed a "hurry up" sheltering you could unroll it and crawl in between layers just as it lay and get yourself out of wind or rain for a few minutes.
  • Dave's the real deal. Awesome books and very informative videos. Exactly what I was looking for. 😃
  • @RatdogDRB
That's a nice bedroll. Good stuff right there, Dave.

i really like having 2 tarps, one smaller and one larger. the larger one is for an overhead cover/ shelter, the smaller one is used like you did hear with a wool blanket to make an insulated bed roll. along with a fire beside you this can keep one pretty warm and well protected from the elements.
  • I remember my dad buying custom made canvass cowboy rolls back in the 90s and paying almost as much. They are still in great condition 30 years later. Only problem is the weight unless your on a horse or ORV they are not practical to hike in to the back country.
  • To much fun brother...You're having too much fun! Such a simple yet elegant system.
  • @couchcamperTM
If I was a cowboy/had a horse I'd buy two. That's a great tarp and it shows your experience.
  • I have a Ellis cowboy bedroll and it was 500$ but it is spectacular for keeping in the vehicle
  • Bravo Zulu. Looks like a viable Christmas present for myself this year.
