We used the string method in the mid 60s in Art Class. Worked very well.

This was so helpful!! I have had several finished drawings where I’ve been unable to fully erase my grid lines.

What a great idea. Thank you. Gonna order some black and white string now I think.

Get a light table and some block grid paper, tape the grid paper under the surface of the light table and the grid will show up on the paper when the light is on. Also can get a piece of glass, tape grid paper to the underside, elevate glass, put light source under glass and u will see grid under the paper. Just a bit easier than taping thread, altho ur method is alot cooler looking lol.

So much work! I'd advise people to learn to draw without a grid.

This is a fantastic method if you don't have a light table. Or even potentially if your putting a design on a wall!

This is an awesome idea. I can't believe I haven't seen this idea posted before and that this video hasn't got more views. Although this is still a lot of work, it's a good tool. The drawing I'm working in, I made the mistake of using too soft a pencil with too much pressure on grid. Some of the lines indented into the paper and now it's showing in some of the tone. I'm pissed. It took me hours to do the extensive outline and hair. I have to try and fix it best i can now. I will definitely try this method next portrait. Thank you again.
