This was a great haul. I wish my local bookstore was as generous about buying blacklist books. They will buy them, but they offer a pittance so I typically donate mine to the library instead.
  • Nice! I too try and only haul as many as I unhaul. I just started And Ladies of the Club (a reread for me). I haven't read it since high school and I'm already enjoying getting back into it. My plan is to finish by Labor day for the Big Book Summer Challenge.

I love that you are interested in older published books - that aren't the classics most have on their shelves. Have you ever read 'As the Crow Flies' by Jeffrey Archer? I remember reading 'And Ladies of the Club' so many years ago, even back then I was drawn to the thick books - if the story is good I don't want it to end! I'd also recommend 'Cape Cod' and 'Back Bay' by William Martin. Wish I had used shops around me that carried older published books - I totally understand what you are saying about the chain bookstores not stocking these due to the older publications... it's why I still support both! Happy Reading to you!! 😊💕📚

That huge bookstore reminds me of a place in Maryland. Perhaps Bethesda?
  • Shadow of the wind! 💜 And if you love it too, there are more in the same sort of series. I want the Wolf den as well. Haha the thumbnail posing is so awkward 😂 I love that book store with the books laying flat so you can read the titles without the neck pain from tilting your head the whole time

I recently unhauled 400+ books. We really want to downsize and sell our house next year. I donated them to my local library for them to use in their library sale. Felt so freeing! Now to get the books I am keeping back onto my shelves.

Glad you had a fun trip! Used book stores and library sales are my favorite kind of book shopping! I have read Wolf Den by Harper. It was more graphic than I expected and very sad. It is set in Pompeii, so I should have been more prepared! I look forward to your thoughts when you review all of your purchases.
  • Hi Shelly! I recently downloaded The Wolf Den but didn't know when I would actually get to it. Since you also have it on your TBR, I'm going to move it to the top! Also, I've always been interested in reading something by Llewellyn, so I'm glad you reminded me!
  • The new mic sounds really good! I also didn’t get along with Murakami. Hope you enjoy The Daughter of Fortune! I’ve been to a Parlor Doughnuts and it was really good. What a great haul!
  • The new mic sounds great. One thing and i notice it on Sandy/Ms. Readsalot's videos too...the thump every time a book is laid down or the table is accidentally bumped. I'm not sure what to do abt it though unless there's a way to put something under the mic to cushion the sound. What a great unhaul and haul! I've not read any of them but a few of the unhauls I've had on my list to read one day and i added the And the Ladies to my list.
  • I have a Used History that also buysbks, then when you buy you pay 1/2 credit and 1/2 cash. I now have $486 in credit 😋😊 Thanks, I enjoyed this..

I read Daughter of Fortune in Greek translation and loved it (I had given it 5 stars). I hope you enjoy it! I really enjoyed The Shadow of the Wind; however, some parts on the treatment of women were vulgar for no good reason, in my opinion. I still loved the  story and the writing in general. The story is very creative. I gave it 4 stars. It's from the books I would want to reread and see what I'll think the second time. I plan to one day read the second book in the series, Angel's Game. I have not read Master and Commander yet, but I've been meaning to read it for years. I'm looking forward to hear your thoughts when you read it.

❤📚 Nice haul (and donut/coffee run)! I added ...And Ladies of the Club to my list. I own The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, but I have not read yet. Will be very interested in hearing your review. Edit: Oh, and mike sounds great!
  • @nathanfoung2347
The Aubrey and Maturin series is great (20 books) historical nautical fiction at it's best. Go well Shelly.
  • @Dinadoesyoga
I read Shadow of the Wind about 22 years ago. I remember it being a page-turner but I felt it was slightly overrated at the time. The Ladies of the Club just came on to my radar because of Nicole's channel (Noteworthy Fiction) Reviews are very mixed on GR, so I'll wait to see if you both love it. 😉
  • @HannahsBooks
I’d love to hear about some of your favorite local bookstores before I come down to SC next time! I’ll contact you at some point, if that’s ok.
  • @written12
That book must have seriously small print.
