He might have been the biggest in football but to the Dutch he was much bigger than football. He has enriched the Dutch language with expressions and sayings, he was a rebel who changed the position of football players towards club and national team, he was a style icon in the 70's, he was the first to lease a car because he made the sponsor contract for his Citroen SM up that way, he snubbed the fascist Franco regime in Spain by naming his son "Jordi", a forbidden name in Spain because it's a Catalan name and San ordi is the patron saint of Catalunya, he got Cruijff courts all over the country. It was quite a character, not always an easy one to deal with, a great friend but also a terrible enemy to have and not a forgiving one. Easy going but imposing at the same time, a great communicator despite not speaking any language correctly. He never respected any hierarchies but was very humble at the same time. Extraordinary man in every way.

Being a stellar footballer made him world famous. His straight-forward, down-to-earth, Amsterdam working class way in life, made the world love him.
