Welcome to our first-time watching as we react to "Airplane!" (1980). Directed by Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, and Jerry Zucker, this film is a parody of the disaster film genre, particularly the style of the 1970s. Known for its fast-paced slapstick comedy and a script loaded with visual and verbal puns, gags, and jokes, "Airplane!" is a cornerstone of American comedy films.

The story hilariously unfolds on a doomed airplane where an ex-fighter pilot with a fear of flying must take control after the crew falls ill. The relentless humor and absurdity, combined with memorable lines like, "Surely you can't be serious? I am serious...and don't call me Shirley," have made this movie a cult classic.

We hope that you enjoy our reactions, commentary, and review as we discuss the different elements that made this film a comedic gem. From the witty exchanges to the clever spoofing of disaster movie clichés, there's a lot to laugh at here.

Thank you for watching, we hope you enjoyed this as much as we did. Let us know what you think!
  • This young lady is one of very few people who have reacted to this movie who understood the “altogether“ joke.
  • @bigsarge8795
REALLY ???.. you SERIOUSLY cut out the conversation with the two kids and the coffee ??.
  • @jimmyzee7040
Wow practically every joke went over your head. Your watching this like it is a real movie lol !
  • NOBODY in 1980 would have called Ted Striker a "stalker". He would have been admired for facing his fears to show the woman how much he loves her. This "stalker" interpretation wouldn't have existed before about 2012.
  • @Arfy900
You cut out one of the best lines of the movie!!! “I take it black… like my men.”
  • @Pugiron
Notice every time they drag someone down the aisle,, someone gets on the PA system to speak and everyone on a plane looks up when a voice comes over the PA
  • @tomloft2000
The guy playing the Japanese soldier(who commits hari kari) is James Hong. He is one of Hollywood's longest lasting actors. He even made a movie appearance this year at the age of 95.
  • @allenruss2976
I'm done with this couples reactions. The simple fact they could not let go of Ted being a "stalker" was just too much. And they thought he was obsessive
  • Why would you think that George Zip was anybody's dad, when he died in a raid led by Ted. Ted suffers all of his confidence loss because he blames himself for the death of those 7 pilots.
  • @WillMuny
"Probably a Boeing" That Killed Me!!!
  • @dvl3435
The guy in the Hospital that thought he was Ethel Merman, that was Ethel Merman.
  • @CaddyJim
I understand cutting some of the jokes & not getting some Jokes, but being in a mixed relationship/marriage how can you cut out the infamous little girl saying "I take my coffee black like my men"
  • @micpar2
Almost all the actors here weren't known at all for comedy. But were serious movie and tv actors.

15:52 Okay here is one of those jokes you might not get- There was a commercial for "Yuban Coffee" in the 70s and the famous line was "Jim never has a second cup of coffee at home." For this "Jim never... at home" gag throughout the film they actually used the same actress from the television commercial. We got the joke instantly back then.
  • Not a film for your generation, you're all way too serious. [edit] I can by all the cuts you made, you removed everything funny.
  • @CaddyJim
The boyfriend is NOT a Stalker Creep, Now the Pilot on the other hand is a CREEP when around Children
  • @iseskaz

The white suit that Ted wears when he meets Elaine is like John Travolta’s suit in “Saturday Night Fever.” And the disco music and disco ball also refer to that.
