Funerals are sad, yes, until you attend a Military Funeral and hear Taps. My Dad is buried at Arlington. Section 59. This song breaks my heart. Miss you Dad xx

I learned how to play Taps on a toy trumpet when I was seven. Everyone thought it was "cute"....except the vets. They never smiled or laughed, they just bowed their heads, looked at the floor and listened. I couldn't understand why....until later.

My good friend Cornelius recently passed away. It was a really tough passing but when this played at his funeral, it really hit me that he was gone forever. I love you Cornelius and I wish you the best in your next life. God Bless and RIP

I recently visited the tomb of the unknown soldiers and when they play taps it is completely different in person than just hearing it in a video. If you ever have the chance you should go and listen to it. The feeling I got was incredible.

Such a sad and lonely piece, but I love it, my great grandad died a few years back, I miss him dearly. He fought in WWII, France and the surrounding areas, when he died, he didn’t want a military funeral, all he wanted was a quiet grave, and I respect him for that. He was a great man and my inspiration for learning about the weapons and history of WWII and the era. Miss you Papa Ray.
  • My heart broke when I heard the "Taps" of the trumpet before my great grandfather was laid to rest a few months ago. Missing my great-grandfather.

The first time I ever heard TAPS was @ my brother's funeral in 1968...I was a senior in high school...he was killed in VietNam. I lose it every time I hear it. Takes me back to the day two soldiers knocked on the door to deliver the bad news...he was only 11 days shy of finishing his tour overseas. Those who made it back home were treated poorly...so if you see a soldier be sure to thank them in some way because your freedom is NOT free ! All gave some & some gave all. My brother was only 20 yr. old. If you ever get a chance to visit THE WALL in Washington or THE MOVING WALL that travels the U.S please go..it's a very sobering experience. John M. Brimm is my HERO ❤ Jonesboro, Illinois

For the 13 marines killed today in Afganistán. May you Rest In Peace. You Heroes are never forgotten.

I've heard too many military salutes to many family and friends who have passed. It's a somber song that touches your heart and soul. May all who served and their families be at peace this memorial day and may all honor all areas of service and not just think it's a bbq free day off

This was played at my grandpas and dad's funeral, and I'm only 13. I just cry when I hear this because it gives my flashbacks.

Today on November 11, 2018. Marks the 100th Anniversary to the end of World War 1. Remember the fallen of WW1. 100 years ago.
  • My grandfather who served in WWII passed away this past September and while we stood there in silence and I heard the bugle start to play taps, tears started to fill my eyes behind my sunglasses. It's such a beautiful song but at the same time it's meaning is heartbreaking

I faithful served my country for 35 years, I'm now 60 and when I hear this I see faces of everyone on my brothers that gave all. God Bless You! My Brothers I miss and forever love you. You are now a soldier of GOD, when its my time I pray that I make the cut to join your ranks.

Most do not know the words. Day is done, gone the sun From the lakes, from the hills, from the sky All is well, safely rest God is nigh. Fading light dims the sight And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright From afar, drawing near Falls the night. Thanks and praise for our days Neath the sun, 'neath the stars', 'neath the sky' As we go, this we know God is nigh.

I made it through the funeral service. I made it through being pallbearer. I made it through the procession. But I didn't make it through Taps.

I miss you grandfather. RIP and may your service never be forgotten. I will always love you and know that you are looking out for my sister and I.
  • First funeral I ever attended was for my navy vet grandfather. Earned enough honours as a deck crewman aboard a carrier off of Vietnam to have a minor service with a local honor guard giving him a gun salute and playing taps. No matter when or where, I always get teary when I hear this. Now I’m in the service, and I know I’ll have to hear it a hell of a lot more.
