The Western sanctions against Russia because of the war in Ukraine are having an effect, especially in international payments. US secondary sanctions are making it more difficult for Russian banks to trade, especially with China, where many banks are suspending payment transactions. Russia is now trying to circumvent these bottlenecks using cryptocurrencies. The sanctions are causing Russia considerable difficulties and are leading to a continuous search for loopholes.
