Manor Lords is currently the #1 most wish-listed game on Steam and without a doubt my most anticipated game of 2024. While the game is slated to be released into early access on April 26th, I have been given a bit of early access to the early access.

So in this video, I want to kick of a village build. I'll give you some tips and tricks that I've picked up after playing all week, as well as provide you with my first impressions and let you know if the game lives up to the hype!

A huge thank you to the developer, Slavic Magic, and publisher, Hooded Horse, for giving me early access to the game. Though I was provided a key, this is not a sponsored video.

Hello everyone! I've seen a few questions asking if this was a sponsored video and wanted to let you know that it is not; however, I was given a review key to access the game early. Very appreciate to the Slavic Magic and Hooded Horse for the opportunity to check the game out early! If you want to support the channel, consider pick up a Steam Key for the game from my store - www.nexus.gg/cityplannerplays

I never normally comment, but I can't stress enough that I want you to keep playing this. I think it would be absolutely fantastic if you used your modern city planning knowledge and combined it with research on historical towns (I would suggest looking at France, England, and Germany). This game looks absolutely fantastic, and think it's perfectly suited to your concept of creating stories for your townsfolk. It's much more compact and much slower progress than Skylines, so it would allow you to much more precisely create a beautiful narrative for your town and the families that inhabit it. Please keep it up, I hope to see more <3

Paradox fuming seeing you create buildings in a non-grid format

ONE guy was able to make this game, with the parcel system, building animations, and AMAZING graphics. Grass looks insane, buildings, shadows, everything. And then we have multi-million, multi-devs Colossal Order making trashy little zoning squares, shitty textures and one single tone of green everywhere on every map. It's truly amazing

That home plot system reminds me so much of how the farms are shaped where I live. I absolutely love it.
  • @katan28kerkhof
Historian specialized in settlement history commenting here; in an actual historical settlement your irregular shaped lots are sure to be a source of discontent and societal conflict for generations to come. ^_^
  • Funny, you are talking about building wells so that this settlement wont have burning trees and stuff (a common sight on your channel...), yet the settlement is literally named "forrestfire" (Waldbrand, German).
  • @LordsSky
A little attention to detail I like about the game: The art on the tech tree. It captures the era so well.
  • Manor Lords is AMAZING! The early access demo has made this one of the most anticipated games for me! ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! Thank you, Phil, for deciding to do a review of it!
  • @Cole_1
This is like two of my favorite things combined. My favorite cities skyline YouTuber and medieval city builder games
  • @TheNerdGasm
This game has gripped me. At first I thought it was just ok. But as you invest more hours into it, and you learn the mechanics of the game, it starts to become something very addictive.
  • @wishyrater
that zoning tool is amazing! This is exactly something that I was hoping CS2 would implement, instead of just the old squares
  • @skatingmermaid
6:00 Had to chuckle a bit when you said: we are not going to Verde Beach this - and the German name on top of the screen is literally Waldbrand, which means forest fire 😅
  • @Tiberium10332
Families work together? It truly is a fantasy game.
  • @Hiatuslacuna
Just watching the trees sway while it was raining/storming. Such attention to detail.
  • @rekunta
I appreciate that you begin at the start and show the game slowly, step by step as it progresses and you articulate what is happening. Many reviewers just jump in, assuming that just because they’ve been playing for a while, everyone watching should know what is going on. One of the better previews of this I’ve seen! 👍🏼 Thanks.
  • @crashnation1
This game actually looks ready to release unlike Cities Skylines 2
  • @justinsinke2088
The three different scenarios right from the start I already find intriguing, as they're three very different styles of play; pure city builder, something akin to a traditional RTS, and a more defensive "base survival". I have to agree, the way the game is completely built around organic construction is really nice. I've seen the more natural. non-grid roads in Farthest Frontier, but they way that home plots are set up is pretty cool, especially with how the larger areas of irregular plots allow for outbuildings to boost the city rather than those all being individual structures you have to allocate space for.
  • @CaptainBrash
What a lovely mix of old and new ideas. I see banished, frostpunk, age of empires, wrapped in an old school total war package. But then there is some really cool new stuff that i bet we will see in games going forward. It looks way better than I thought it would, I'm even more hyped for it.
