I spent about 2 hours watching videos and trying to pick my bike lock, after I previously changed the combination and forgot it. It looks the same as your pink lock, so wish I had seen this video first. It has some false gates which through me off for a while, but eventually I worked out the exact technique that you explained. I went for a bobby pin and found the lock packaging with the combination code written on it. So, I didn't end up cracking the combination the fun way, but the lock works again, thanks to your video!

On the Abus 165/40mI also noticed that when the wheels are not in a true gate, if you hold shackle tension and rotate up a half turn and release, these is no spring and the dial stays in place - conversely, the true gate causes the dial to spring back to the previous position. A little tricky to explain so I might record an episode at some point to demonstrate the idea.
