Level 1- Animallusions Zebra

Level 10- Chaotic Decision Maker Pendulum

Level 20- Revolving Octagons: a kinetic art desk toy from the 1990s that was sold in the Natural Wonders chain of mall shops. Powered by one AA battery, a motor moves three magnets under the mirror surface which drags the three geometric components in a circular dance. Note the rounded base of the silver octagon forms, allowing an off center contact point which then is acted on by friction to induce each to spin as it is dragged along.

Level 30- Infinity Mirror Tea-light Candle: parallel partially mirrored panes of glass create the illusion of multiple candle flames through the physics of reflection and refraction. Featuring candles from my collection this month as the winter solstice approaches.

Level 40- Tesla’s Egg of Columbus Replica

Level 50- Micro Mirror Interactive Art

Level 60- Wonder

Level 70- UFO Mirascope

Level 80- Magic Sake Cup

Level 90- Perpetual Dolphin Wheel: another kinetic art desk toy from the 70s- the rotor will stay in motion for weeks, until the hidden 9V battery is depleted. The rotor has a magnet embedded within each dolphin- and an extremely simple and ingenious circuit within the base (comprised of: a coil, a battery, and one transistor), senses the approaching magnets and energizes the coil to gives these magnets a push as the rotor passes through the middle. Similar to the Andrew’s Space Wheel, this device also takes advantage of conservation of energy and angular momentum to sustain the motion.

Level 100- Slow Dance: a kinetic sculpture via induced vibration and high speed strobe lighting in which objects exhibit subtle and graceful motion when mounted within this special frame. An elegant electromagnet supplies the physics to induce the motion seen as the beautiful copper windings prominently featured at the bottom of the frame. Electronics within the frame send AC currents to the electromagnet which then pushes and pulls magnets on each side. These magnets are affixed to leaf springs to which feathers, flowers, and other objects are attached with elastic bands. The arrangement is then illuminated by LEDs set to strobe at just the right frequency to produce the slow dance illusion.

It's a shame that the Wonder sculpture by Tom Lawton ended up being a scam. He collected over $65,000.00 from 60 people and stopped communicating with everyone. After months of not responding and posting pictures of himself in Vegas he told the customers he was shutting down his business and the money was spent.
