Light touring set up - Bontrager lightweight backrack with Arkel Dry lite

A quick video showing the Bontrager lightweight back rack paired with the Arkel dry lite pannier fitted to my Trek crossrip. I was trying to find some information as to whether or not this set up would work with my smaller size frame and also exactly how they installed. I went ahead and bought the stuff and it worked out! I was pleased with the quality and the fit is good. I made this video to add some clarification and hopefully this will help you make a decision for your own light touring set up.

correction the brake bridge adapter has threads on both sides you would use both arms not one.

About my bike it's a trek crossrip 3 aluminum frame with regular quick release axles. Shimano 105 groupset. This is a great all around bike, capable of wider tires for gravel and rough roads yet light and quick enough for the road. It has mounts for racks and fenders too. It has a pretty high stack and short reach, I really like the fit on it and it's disappointing they stopped making this model because it's truly a do it all bike.

  • I am looking for the same setup :-). Maybe you can help me with regard of the rack. Do you think it will fit rear wheel axle 135mm and have enough clearance for 700x45C tire? What is the height of the rack (without L-bracket) and what is the length of the front and rear part of the top deck (when you draw vertical line from the bottom mounting point it "splits" the top platform into front and rear part)? Thank you very much in advance!

Is it 28L per or total for pair?

Good vid, as I have the same rack and am planning to get a pair of these bags. Instead of showing them empty and telling us they expand "quite a bit," you might've stuffed something in them to show that. But hey, I quibble.
  • Good video (apart from having a hard time hearing what he says due to the cheesy guitar)
