THE INSANE STORY OF NINTENDO - At first, Nintendo had nothing to do with video gaming. Its president Hiroshi Yamauchi didn’t even play video games. Instead, Nintendo made hanafuda playing cards which were used to gamble, and their biggest customer was the Yakuza (essentially the Japanese Mafia). So, how did a small family-run card business turn into one of the best-selling gaming companies of all time - responsible for some of the most iconic characters ever created like Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong, and so many more? As well as creating countless iconic consoles like the Gameboy, Wii, Switch and NES. It’s time to take a journey through Nintendo’s epic history. We'll not only cover Nintendo's strange origin story and the full Nintendo history, but also the birth of Mario, the Kirby vs King Kong lawsuit, the console wars with Sega, how Nintendo betrayed Sony, and so much more from Nintendo's crazy past. This is the insane story of Nintendo - a MagnatesMedia business documentary.

Sorry for the long wait for this video - it turned into a bigger project than I expected. Hope you enjoy! :) Also… let’s be honest, Facebook groups kinda suck. There is a reason many creators are now building communities on Skool instead. it’s a much better user experience, and much more fun to use. I’m part of a few Skool groups myself and I highly recommend testing it out yourself with the trial. Use my link to get started for FREE: magnates.media/skool

Man you left out the part about wii u. Where it failed hard and the ceo took responsibility and didnt fire anyone saying that he was at the end of the line for approval and it’s his fault. Instead of firing anyone or doing pay cuts for the loss he pay cut himself so everyone can keep their jobs. Then the workers were touched and created the switch.

Imagine what a 2-3 hour movie of this story would look like.
  • @Bunny-pr8gw
Did anyone else catch that? That little toy Gunpei had was called the Ultra Hand. Zelda made a little tribute to this by giving link an ability called Ultrahand in TotK
  • @MiamiPapi
Gunpei Yokoi was an absolute genius. I really enjoyed seeing a leader touring his company, seeing the potential of a random worker, and bringing his talents to the forefront. Nintendo's story shows intuition, taking gambits, and following a creed. Great video!
  • @Karlach_
So Mario is named after an angry landlord who jumped up and down while yelling? Lmao that's amazing 😂
  • @BalboaBaggins
So in the beginning the Yakuza was Nintendo's biggest buyer. And now 150 years later they're the mob themselves.
  • @waddlebottle
the amount of inaccuracies in this video is insane
  • @b-rare
This man did more for Nintendo then all of his ancestors combined. This man is legendary. So many hot products that are timeless and unique. Pokémon, game boy, Mario, Nintendo nes. They own that entire scene it’s crazy how they’ve impacted the entire world.
  • @MrBelles104
This might have been the first video I've seen with two sponsors but this video is still an interesting history of Nintendo. I had no idea they started as a gambling card company and went through so many challenges.
  • @rayhoover9357
That part about Kirby is absolutely false. Kirby was directly named after and inspired by the Kirby vacuum which the creator of Kirby's mom had as a child growing up. That's why Kirby's powér is literally inhaling enemies and taking they're power or skill!
  • @RyanofAndor
Didn't mention the Blockbuster lawsuit. That was a big loss for them as people could rent games instead of buying.
  • @Xario1
I find it a little disappointing that you didn't mention the Nintendo DS at all. At one point it was Nintendo's most important portable console as it had one of the first touch screen technologies, and also started the normalization of wireless technology in multi-player gaming. But I guess most people don't think much of it anymore now that everything has both touch and wireless.
  • @ONUCHEJAT
The amount of time invested on the animation is mind blowing, weldone to you for a wonderful job
  • @justinpenascosa
3:50 okay, YOU got me invested already to this video even though I've never seen or heard about your channel. You didn't just SAY what Hanafuda Cards were, but you also taught a bit of history of how it's made which is NOT in relation whatsoever to Nintendo. A job well done!
  • @6z0
Love them or hate them, they still provided endless hours of entertainment and some of the best franchises of all time to millions of people I started a war in the replies. Its not that deep people
  • @tybracadabra6321
“A late game is only late until it ships, a bad game is bad until the end of time” Could almost say that shigeru delaying the release of tears of the kingdom was a callback to this mentality, and I’m still so grateful for it
  • You forgot to mention that Shigeru Miyamoto basically produced clones of Namco games from Pac Man to Pac-Land for the Family Computer especially Super Mario Bros
  • @topspot4834
Without the internet, those Nintendo magazines were everything!! Its been over 3 decades since I thought of that magazine, but if you could convince your mom to buy one, you were in heaven!!
  • @davidreed9046
The N64 was not mentioned😢 IMHO that was one of Nintendo’s greatest systems. It used texture mapping before Sony did on the 32-bit PS. While carts were limited in memory, there were not the same load times as with CD based games. The controller was revolutionary in ability to be used multiple ways.
