#keeptalking Episode 8 Kiran Rao
Kiran Rao's Laapata Ladies is fun, entertaining and strikes a big blow for gender rights with a very soft touch. After a hectic build up to the release and even as the film continues in the theatres Kiran is trying to figure out how more people can access it. People in places with no theatres, places where the internet is still patchy and places where in 2024 ladies can still go laapata. Catch the filmmaker who has been in the public eye for a long time, talk about the film, the craft, her work and last but not the least Aamir Khan.

In recent times only 12fail became successful despite being small film. Hopefully "Srikant" movie does the same... Loved laapta ladies though 😊

Frankly speaking, I don't know why Kiran is so disappointed with Laapata Ladies. It's entering it's 7th week with two Mega Budget films. If you compare this with any other small films recently, this feat is next to impossible. The kind of reach Kiran wants, the only film that has managed to do that is probably Gadar 2, where people came in trucks from their villages. A big number of single screens have closed so villages don't have theatres anymore. While a lot of emphasis is on the small films not working, let's not forget even the big scale films are not working. Yodha, Fighter to an extent, and it seems like BMCM will also have the same fate. Only satellite has that kind of reach, where again a Gadar did a TRP of 7, an extremely rare feat. I think she really overestimated the amount of moviegoing audiences.
