We spent a full day exploring the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier in San Diego, California and this is a fast walk-through of the areas below decks, captured at the very end of the day when it was the quietest.

I also captured the earlier part of this day as a time-lapse in 360° if you want to see more of this ship:    • Time-Lapse of a visit to the USS Midw...

"USS Midway (CVB/CVA/CV-41) is an aircraft carrier, formerly of the United States Navy, the lead ship of her class. Commissioned 8 days after the end of World War II, Midway was the largest ship in the world until 1955, as well as the first U.S. aircraft carrier too big to transit the Panama Canal. She operated for 47 years, during which time she saw action in the Vietnam War and served as the Persian Gulf flagship in 1991's Operation Desert Storm. Decommissioned in 1992, she is now a museum ship at the USS Midway Museum, in San Diego, California, and is the only remaining inactive U.S. aircraft carrier that is not an Essex-class aircraft carrier." • Thank you for the video. Midway was my home for two years, 1979 to 1981. It was nice to see some of the areas that I remember. I have been back aboard twice, once before it was refurbished and once in 2006. I would love to go back. I served on five ships and Midway was my favorite. Of the five three are now razor blades and one serves in Turkey. Again, thank you.
  • My wife brought this old veteran( me) for my birthday. It was a amazing day and humbling knowing all the people that bravely served on that proud ship .

I'm there 2-3 times a week now training as a Docent. Really love this amazing historically significant ship. Best part is I get to hang with all the amazing veterans of this ship...and others including aviators. I have a classmate that was a Top Gun aviator and flew  f-14 Tomcats. As you walked through I was naming all the spaces - good practice for me - thanks.

Served on the Coral Sea during the 80s. I could almost smell breakfast when you went through the chow hall . I actually liked the dehydrated eggs covered in hot sauce .

  • LOL! I saw my old rack from 1985 @ 32:00.Funny thing; I NEVER saw almost any of those other spaces on the tour. Sure didn't recall the First Class mess being located where it said it was. I thought it was off from the AFT mess decks...
