If Mara did control The Taken and become a sort of new Taken Queen, it's possible that she might use them to take pressure off her corsairs. But the use of the Taken comes with risks, and the coalition's Cabal, Fallen and Guardian forces will likely have thoughts of their own.

You know, two years ago I would've just rolled my eyes at the prospect. "Yup, Mara up to her old tricks again, being sneaky and untrustworthy, tampering with dark powers seemingly for the sole purpose of sowing distrust among her own allies and being special." But of the many changes made over the years, Mara actually becoming a good, interesting character is one I like the most. She's finally realizing the harm she's done in her reckless, self-assured pursuit of power, and while her interest in taking Oryx's Throne does... concern me about her falling into her old ways, the Mara of today is ultimately a different character from the Mara of even Season of the Lost, let alone the rude, borderline narcissistic Queen of the Reef from Forsaken. Of anyone in the system, I probably trust her with that power the most. For now, at least.

Love how byf is trying to talk about some serious topic and how it could change the future of the destiny lore, then at 5:00 savathunes Cochie (adept) joins the fireteam to help stop the taken

Byf, Corsairs can leave the Dreaming City at any time. But if they do, they can't come back in. Petra and the Guardians can come and go. Anyone else can go, but they can't come back. That's what made the curse so devious. Savathun set up a win/win scenario for herself. The awoken have to fight for the city over and over. If the stay, Savathun gained power from the fighting. If they chose to leave, Savathun's forces would come closer and closer to winning, gaining access to the distributary (and at the time, this was in pursuit of gaining the ability to make Imbaru real, but Bungie forgot that Imbaru was Savathuns goal, not a power she actually has). A whole bunch of corsairs have left the loop already. Dialogue from the one who gets wounded and bleeds out every cycle has confirmed this. She's mentioned that several friends have left already, but she's decided to stick it out, despite her particularly bad fate each loop. If she decided she wanted to leave, she could do so. The loop only enforces your actions to be the same if you're staying. It lets you leave.

I remember the week before the Taken King launched. The Taken world events were in place as a teaser for that week; having an army of the damn things drop on you during patrol without warning was humbling, they were weird and powerful and hard to kill and we didn't understand them. We forget just how much power creep has ocurred in Destiny. I'm of the opinion that the Taken basically won't survive past the Witness' destruction. Only those taken who have somehow maintained some kind of will of their own (anything half-taken, like Quira, Sloane, Riven etc, and the ascended taken of the court of Oryx such as Cra'adug) might survive. Anything else without the personal will to maintain itself will fade away.

I think it can be inferred that Mara’s experiment worked. Osiris didn’t ask, so Mara didn’t say. Osiris was only interested in the implications of an ally wielding that power, not necessarily whether it worked or not.

It makes a certain degree of sense. Mara's will is indomitable and her mastery of the ascendant plane would put her on the level of a hive god should she successfully claim the taken. The curse on the dreaming city could possibly be twisted to her advantage maybe?

Imagine if an Ahamkara had overheard Mara's desire to gain control over the Taken. Wouldn't be hard to envision how an Ahamkara could easily twist such a wish by making Mara Sov Taken herself. Mara's will would probably be strong enough that she MIGHT retain independence and control over herself, but......she would make an interesting Destiny 3 villain if she became corrupted, all because of the chaos of Wish Magic.
  • I will now be imagining the Witness slowly flaoting to where it builds the monolith with jetsons car sounds

Man Petra is truely something else. I know everyone was on Amanda for being the best non guardian, but come on, the dedication and perseverance of Petra is rivaled by none. Not even us Guardians. And I dare to say not even by the queen herself. Petra would rather be banging her head against the wall fighting for her people than let any of them die again. Even if the curse brings them back Yet she will always follow her own code, nether even falter Best Ghost line I absolutely forgot about: 11:49

Ironically her recent development into someone who isn't just playing a cosmic level chess game might have lead to this temptation. Now she's not just moving Carsair's as pieces, now she's commanding actual living people. Any way to reduce loss of life is going to tug at the back of any commander's mind in such a position.
  • @JuggerToad
This could be the next step in the story of the Taken. The Witness is about to go down, Xivu has no hold on them anymore, nor does Savathun since losing Quria. Mara has seen the power first hand, back from the days of Oryx. Now, what she plans to do with that power...
  • @npact69
So Mara should talk to the Drifter. I know we haven't brought up Gambit in a minute, but isn't that what he has been doing this entire time. The purpose of Gambit and his Bank?
  • @WhoisPersona
I am hoping that we do get an in-universe explanation as to why the Taken forces we've been fighting up until now have been comprised of the Races we are familiar with. We know that other species have been Taken though I guess they were elsewhere when Oryx came to Sol and when we killed him those distant forces could no longer be called upon?
  • @SSpider41
Mara: Wish i could control the taken. L Me years ago after Kings Fall: sooo we taking the Kings mantle and control over the Taken and Hive, right? Right?
  • @STORYTXLLXR
Mara Sov IMO is the hardest character since D1, for me to ever understand. She’s such an enigma , I love her character but wish I knew what her real goal is. It’s like Bungie IS Mara Sov lol
