If Clara was shot right in front of 12, I'm not sure he could keep his cool to stop it detonating, his "The Doctor is no longer here" speech to Ashildr would do it. Yet at the same time, the Doctor sort of managed to for 4.5 billion years before he let everything out in Hellbent.

On one hand, the War Doctor is absolutely looking for an excuse to die. On the other hand, I don’t think that the War Doctor is going to step on a landmine to begin with. He walks in and it’s a nice break from the even worse hellscape of the Time War, somehow.

I remember one person surmised it as 7 placed the landmine himself to manipulate Ace into staying with him after the last time he betrayed and gaslighted her again.

i'm saying this as 11 being my favourite doctor, but he absolutely would not survive boom. he'd step onto the landmine before going "welp claps hands i'm stu-" before dying
