Looking back, the Kamino arc would’ve made for a perfect final arc for Deku’s first year in UA. All Might’s retirement would put more pressure on the students to fill the void that All Might left behind.

This isn't really relevant to the topic, but I really feel MHA needed at least one more year to truly flesh out its story. Imagine if Lady Nagant had been introduced before the war, in an extra arc where the Public Safety Commission somehow learns of the true nature of OFA. With their shady, Amanda Waller-esque mentality, they'd never allow someone so powerful to be left out of their control. All Might was too popular and spontaneous for them to manipulate, but if they knew his successor was a kid, and that his quirk was transferable, they'd do one of two things: A. Blackmail Deku into being their puppet, either through hostages or other means. B. Attempt to force Deku to transfer his quirk to someone absolutely loyal to them. The follow up could've been Deku going AWOL in response, and then showing up to save the day when the war started, even if the result would've been the same as what we actually got. I just feel like there was so much more Horikoshi could've done, but either chose not to, or was unable to.

It's ironic that Horikoshi avoided the Sasuke thing with Bakugou, considering he went full Orochimaru with AFO, something even Kishmoto never did in his actual series.

I really love how Endeavor and his family's personality coincide with their quirks. Fire doesn't stop burning until it's consumed what it's burning, which explains why Endeavor would refuse to give up chasing after All Might until he could succeed through Todoroki. Dabi's flames are even hotter where, even through self-injury, Touya is unable to shake the dream of becoming the #1 hero. Even after Endeavor himself tried putting the fire out, it continued to burn hotter than his own, driving Touya mad and into near insanity and self-destruction in his fight with Todoroki. Todoroki has the fire and passion to become a hero, but also has the ice and reasoning to never grow as obsessed as Endeavor. I absolutely love the parallels
  • The only real ways they could save the logic of AFO would be to: A) AFO reveals that wasn't the initial plan, but once he realized bodysnatching was something he could do, he went for it (although I think that might be impossible now), or B) AFO trained Shigaraki specifically so that if he failed to bodysnatch or whatever, Shigaraki would be able to win and obliterate everything as a final "fuck you" to All Might.
  • 1:52:20 wouldn’t it have been interesting to really dive in on the general public’s distain towards Endeavor and Hawks after getting exposed as an abuser and a murderer respectively on national tv instead of getting a few pages of reporters being mean and randoms yelling at them once?? It’s just so disappointing 😤
  • @leedriver7029
Still hoping that you guys can talk about the Culture Festival/Gentle Criminal arc. Would be interesting to talk about one of the more divisive arcs during the series’ divisive ending
  • @andimjustalex
I hope we get to see an MHA rewrite from either of you once the series concludes. A lot of what both of you say in this video and where you believe the story should have gone sounds like the MHA I would have liked to read instead.
  • @darthnius809
I kinda want to read the Ian and Oceanman retelling of MHA. This series reminds me how good MHA was. ImmaculateImpressions/10

32:46 - 33:03 isn't that like AFO right now? Like: "One of my assassins is about to defeat Deku" -"No, the kids just came in and took him back to UA" "...well, no matter, once I get New order I sure will-" -"Yeah about that... the quirk got destroyed and Shigaraki got murked in ways we still haven't explained." "O-okay...but I still have a traitor in the UA walls that would sure-" -"Nope he just got caught and now is conspiring against you." "Oh but I foresaw it and brought my entire army while Midoriya is isolated, so nobody can come and-" -"Oh no, the heroes just used Kurogiri to bring an army too and would you look at that, they separated us." ".......Still, these little flees can't hurt me, I'm the demon lord-" -"Endeavour just burnt you to death like a sad piece of toast. Boss, I'm not sure your mastermind persona is working here."
  • Nice to have another one of these podcasts. I love hearing both of your thoughts.
  • @r3aper2004
Imo from MVA to the dabi dance was the peak of MHA. And I really fucking hoped that AFO's return would've meant a chance for Shigi to actually replace him and truly surpass him but oh well.
  • My fav moment in MHA is when Dabi dabi’ed all over all the heroes and told Endeavor ‘this is my war arc academia’ Truly one of the moments in history
  • @BuzzabeelYT
Waiting inevitably for Deku to save Shigaraki and instantly redeem him by calling him “the coolest guy”
  • @Gvern100
Please keep these reviews with Ian going this time!!! After seeing this one I binged all the other episodes you have available and now I need more!!!!! You guys give a great back and forth melding of ideas and thoughts that make me see mha in new ways I never have before! And I’ve seen some parts of the show over 15 times. Some episodes over 30 times lol
  • @Gvern100
Some of my favorite content rn please keep them going! Looking forward to the Overhaul discussion the most!
  • I have loved this series of podcasts you guys have done since the war arc, way back when. It’s actually what originally got me subscribed to the channel. No rush on the next one, just know I will happily wait for you and Ian to talk my hero, but I hope it won’t be another 4-5 month wait. You both always have such interesting analysis and are fun to listen to.

To touch on the room stuff, I feel like people have this obsession with calling the slice of life stuff filler, and there for have an issue with it being in stories that arent specifically slice of life. As far as actual filler goes so far MHA has like 2 recap episodes that are technically filler, but I've heard people refer to regular story stuff as filler just because it didnt "affect the overall plot". Like they forget that these characters have lives, they forget that these are characters that we need to get to know first. We gotta let these characters have fun instead of expecting everything to just feed the plot
  • @Crystel150
Thank yall for making these! Knowing how painful it is to look back on what could have been, it nice hearing yalls retrospect on the series and enjoying the good parts. Especially to the level you guys speak to the themes and significance. Looking forward to the next one!
