I'm not reading all 500 comments to see if this has been noted, but she wore her nursing shoes for a hike because not many athletic shoes were manufactured in women's sizes in the 1950s. Several of the earliest women runners in the Boston Marathon competed in nursing shoes; if your feet weren't big enough for the smallest mens''shoes, they were the best readily available. alternative. (Edit: Can't grammar, fixed for clarity.)

My girl just wanted to be left alone to rot in the woods like a hag for a couple weeks, extremely relatable tbh

Biologist here. The snake story is an example of Batesian mimicry, which is when a harmless species mimics the warning signs of harmful species as a means for protection.
  • @htewing
"I have to work on Monday" is like, the absolute LAST thing that would get me to "leave" the woods. Hell, I have to go back to work on Monday and I low-key feel like getting LOST in the damn woods to avoid it tbh

@34:58 "Sorry, I can't be a Missing-411 victim, I have to show up for work on Monday." 🤣
  • @Beespank
Lmao that poor snake was probably so confused as to why the soft heated rock he found was suddenly screaming 😂 LOL and then unceremoniously swooped into a bag 😂😂😂
  • When she talked about hearing the searchers and her dad but not being able to get to them, my first thought was that she might be experiencing psychosis due to the stress of being lost in the woods AND her father being mentally ill as well
  • @smacris16
theory - her dad might have said no to visiting the carolinas because of his upcoming tour. curious about the possibility of her intentionally leaving, traveling to the carolinas - to be with her “friend”, who talks with a level of knowing and intimacy about Evangeline that makes me think they could be more than friends. They stay together for a week or so then she makes her way back, her dad camping out on the highway to try to spot her on the return if she later informed him she’s alive and will come back. I can’t imagine being in the smokies for 18 days, being asked what I ate, and being like “uhhh berries? no more questions 🤚”

For her dads medical history- I feel like it worth noting these are 1950s mental hospitals so probably not the most accurate when diagnosing people

Watching Aiden try to talk with his hands and not boop the dog sitting in his lap is the best part of this video
  • Depending on how the “W.M.” was written, it may be short for just his first name “Wm” was a common abbreviation of William for a ling time.

I was thinking the reason why the searchers “never heard her yelling” was because she wasn’t. If she was actually in the woods as long as she was she was probably scared and malnourished, causing her to mildly hallucinate. She may have thought she was yelling for help when she really wasn’t due to lack of food and water, on top of exhaustion

I'm wondering if Tennessee having split time zones could account for her being spotted somewhere at 2:20pm, then being seen pretty far away at 2:40pm? I think one city was Knoxville, but I forget the 2nd city, but just throwing this out there as a possible explanation. Depending on the direction, that could make the sightings either 40 minutes apart, or an hour & 20 minutes apart.
  • Schizophrenia symptoms usually begin in a persons early 20s, and her father was institutionalized. She may have had an episode, hearing voices in the mountains. Would be interesting to see if she had mental issues later in life
  • That poor snake. Found a warm spot for the night, woke up to some banshee screaming, then jabbed with a stick and shoved into an air tight sack. Poor guy was probably terrified to wake up surrounded by large bipedal predators. Bravely Stuck to its guns, pretend to be venomous and hope the semievolved lemurs leave you alone. Escape when they arent looking.
  • The girl's statement saying I decided I was going to go home now because I had to be at work on Monday morning doesn't necessarily mean that it's a hoax or anything, but it is the way some people that believe in prayer And manifestation speak they say stuff about willing stuff into existence so she decided that she was no longer going to be lost. I mean that's not the same as whole thing doesn't sound fishy but that is another way of people speaking that are spiritual

Watched when you only had 5k but at somepoint YT unsubscribed me from a bunch of "true crime related" channel! So happy to have found you again!
  • As a woman who's been married and out of the house for 8 years, I tried to run from my father 3 times. If I had gotten lost trying to run I would have absolutely lied after being found, so he wouldn't abuse me after I was sent home with him. I find myself lying to this day to avoid "getting in trouble". Abuse will make you do crazy things, it changes the way your brain works, if you're scared enough you'll hide till you're more afraid of dying. I still wake up screaming some nights, she gives all the signs of a run gone wrong
