Missak Manouchian: A stateless hero enters France's Panthéon • FRANCE 24 English

Published 2024-02-20
His life was worthy of a novel. An Armenian orphan who arrived in France as a stateless refugee and became a poet and Communist activist, Missak Manouchian was a figure of the French Resistance during World War II. Exactly 80 years to the day after his execution by the Nazis, Manouchian is taking his place in the Panthéon mausoleum alongside France's other national heroes – a symbol of all foreign Resistance fighters who died for France. FRANCE 24's Alison Sargent, Florence Gaillard, Gaëlle Fonseca and Georges Yazbeck look back at Manouchian's life and legacy.

France has always recognized the heroes of her country including Hero Missak Manoutchian. Thanks to France that has taken the greater step with placing Missak Manoutchian and his wife, Melineh to Pantheon with an unforgettable ceremony. Vive la France, Vive les Heroes de la Guerre 1900s.

He experienced a war and is wise like thousands of other non-Armenian children. I am a Sephardic from Trabzon, my grandmother was wise even after the war because of the war but not through a genocide. A war in which you French were involved and cooperated with the perpetrators.

Unuseful political opportunism. Glorifying a death after 80 years won't help solving issues caussed to living with your incompetence. Continue to distribute medals, is all what you are capable instead of leading the right action to improve people life.
