Should Google Sell YouTube?

YouTube is a massive money maker for Alphabet after Google bought it back in 2006, but it's arguably big enough to survive on its own. So could we see a split in the future? Why would YouTube want to go it alone? And what's still holding them back?

subtle announcement that TLDR News is buying Youtube
-
Short answer: No. Long answer: Probably not, unless they are asked to do so by regulators

graphics team are sitting cosy this week

Take a shot every time they reuse a graphic.

How many times can you show the same graph in one video đ

content moderation is the least of their worries. google owns all the data centers that host YouTube.

while I watch almost every TLDR video across all channels, this one is just bad. I learned absolutely nothing by watching this

This was a very repetitive video

I've been working in digital advertising for 14 years for a large UK agency. I can say with extreme confidence that YouTube benefits MASSIVELY through the Google relationship. Even though you might think YouTube could be forgotten about, there has been a huge focus from Google on developing and better-integrating YouTube within their advertising ecosystem. Especially with some more modern campaign formats such as Performance Max and Demand Gen campaigns. The whole purpose of these is to make it easier for all advertisers to tap into a wider pool of Google inventory, including YouTube. In addition, the audience data and performance tracking from Google provide immeasurable benefits to YouTube advertisers. I cannot imagine a world in which YouTube would want to part ways with Google.

So basically itâs not going to happen.

It's weird to explain, but I feel the script was made by AI. The structure doesn't really makes sense. Information is repeated and doesn't really tell a story. I know you can make better TLDR!
-
I donât get why being part of a parent company gives you less âfocusâ? Thereâs people still on YouTube full time

You guys used the same image for the google ecosystem tree for the vast majority of the video. Almost made this one into a radio worthy talk. Please find different things to display to make it worth watching, even if listening is still great as always.

Youtube might have some problems but it's still in my opinion the best social media platform right now
-
Nice reminder that High School Musical is from 2006đ

People would sue Alphabet for mismanagement if they ever sold YouTube. Just a really bad move. You passed over one of the best arguments for why YouTube will never be sold. It is a MASSIVE source of data for Google's AI and advertising divisions

Glad you met your weekly video quota with this one pal. Couldâve kept it in the drafts

This video has been de-monetised.

YT perfect as it is. This is one of those instances where people don't realize how good they have it until later, they just take everything for granted and actually complain about every little thing.

I've only just started watching shorts and so so many cut off half way or have a part 2 you can't find.
