Our mission is to explain news and politics in an impartial, efficient, and accessible way, balancing import and interest while fostering independent thought.

TLDR is a completely independent & privately owned media company that's not afraid to tackle the issues we think are most important. The channel is run by a small group of young people, with us hoping to pass on our enthusiasm for politics to other young people. We are primarily fan sourced with most of our funding coming from donations and ad revenue. No shady corporations, no one telling us what to say. We can't wait to grow further and help more people get informed. Help support us by subscribing, engaging and sharing. Thank

Weird way to announce that TLDR is buying TikTok.

Too be fair, Microsoft does own LinkedIn, which does have 310 million monthly active users. So surely it would count as a major social network even if its social networking is for a different purpose

"... that he now insists we call X." Literally LoL'd.
  • @smalltime0
Just a nitpick, Nvidia doesn't actually make the chips, TSMC/Intel does.
  • I think Walmart is a serious contender. They are already trying to buy Vizio to expand their advertising business and they would be in the best position to increase shopping on TikTok. Plus, they would probably face less regulatory resistance than Amazon since their existing businesses don't technically overlap very much with TikTok.

Another option would be for Tik Tok to do an initial public offering of their stock. Selling the stock to the public would avoid the problems mentioned and might get them more money. Obviously their would be not anti trust issues.

Bobby "Darth" Kotick buying TikTok is hilarious.

There is another scenario. Creating a separate "TIK TOK US", owned by a an american located branch, might just help them stall the motion. Also, selling just this TIK TOK US branch now or in the future is a much simplier endeavour

Microsoft doesnt own a major social network? Does LinkedIn not count? 🤔
  • IMO it’s going to be a group of PE firms. They’ll hold for a few years and scale the ad revenue, then take it public for north of $500bn.
  • These types of video from TLDR Business are the best! 🙌Needless to mention it's very interesting topic, curious to see what's going to happen. 🤔

I truly hope TikTok will call it a day and leave the US. And I truly hope we’ll have a similar scenario in the EU in the coming years.

I dont think the ccp is letting go of tiktok
  • @alphakevin687
Please sell to Space Karen. They will rename it to X2 and run it into the ground. Net benefit for everybody.

I think Microsoft - No antitrust against them, most valuable company in the world, no existing social business (not counting LinkedIn)
  • @ciaranbrk
That aren’t going to sell it. 150 million people in the US use Tik tok. They have plenty more users around the world. There is no way in hell they’re going to sell it. Because it sets a precedent.
