Having fresh flowers on my home office desk and kitchen table brings me so much joy and, while it may seem like a frivolous expense to some, it’s something I still indulge in. I’ve come to learn which flowers will last almost 2 weeks looking nice and supplementing with baby’s breath or eucalyptus helps me make 2 bouquets under $10. (Trader Joe’s tends to have great prices too). 🌹

The one luxury I won't give up is having a haircut at a good salon with a stylist that I know will do a good job. I don't color my hair or spend money on pedicures and manicures so I make room in our budget for a haircut every 6 weeks. Love your channel. You and Paul seem like a nice down to earth couple. Good advice in a non judgmental way.
  • I love this idea of gathering ideas from Pinterest for clothing and then look for similar items at a thrift stores.

Another great, helpful video, Emmy! For my husband and me, something I haven't seen mentioned as a non-negotiable is chiropractic care. I have a few auto-immune illnesses and nothing helps me more than alternative medicine (along with organic/grass-fed foods and lifestyle management). We are people who do not care what "the Jones'" have or how they live, so we do not go in to debt for anything. This allows us to afford this healthcare regimen. It has bettered my quality of life and allowed me to still be here at 55 (there was uncertainty if I would make it to 40)!
  • My daughter is very frugal. Her frugal style is very different from mine. I stay frugal by stating out of stores, and she stays frugal by spending money on sale items. She makes a lot of gift baskets for weddings, showers, and birthdays. The baskets are always very nice and the gifts well appreciated.

Hi Emmy and Paul! I wanted to tell you that all of your videos are very inspiring. This is not from today's question, but from a few weeks back, sorry I couldn't locate the video so I am sharing it here. Thanks to both of your inspiring me, I am a 58-year old single female, and my washing machine was not working properly. Today, after your wonderful video, I searched and found out how to fix it, and I did it myself. I would encourage anyone who is not handy, like me, to try to find a way to fix things if you are able too. I don't know what washer's cost now, but whatever it is, no labor and no new washer!

You're always a cheerful and positive presence ❤ I've been struggling with my health and feeling sorry for myself. Thank you for helping me refocus on blessings and how powerful focusing on the sinole things can be.

I would love to see a video about your gift basket ideas that include things BESIDES the usual "movie" , coffee, baking baskets and dollar store toiletries in a "self care" basket.

Living a frugal lifestyle and tucking money away in a savings account is preparing you for a “rainy day “. After 40+ years of burning wood for our small passive solar house we are going to have to go to a different heating system. Burning wood is so much work, but my husband has been doing it faithfully all these years. Now we are older and no longer have the health to do the work involved in burning wood. Also the insurance companies are charging higher prices for people who burn wood or won’t insure you at all. We are information gathering about different home heating systems. This change is going to be a chunk of money, but it is our “rainy day “. We have money saved to meet this forced change in our life style. Thank you for being encouragers!
  • Excellent video! Loved seeing the exterior of your home and all the beautiful perennials! So pretty. I agree with your stance on tithing. That is one area that I don't want to cut back on. Blessings.

Going out to lunch on the days my brother has an Dr. appointment. It's a treat for him. We use our AARP card for a discount..

You hit the nail on the head! It's ALL ABOUT priorities and finding items on sale. Make do, grow your own and eat at home. Also not needing the "newest item" I still use an iPhone 8!!!!! Have a good week end.
  • I love how proud you are of your frugality. The two of you have made a beautiful life together and are an inspiration to so many others. Being Italian, you understand that there's an art to living well and you have mastered it. Grazie! ❤❤❤

You always have such good ideas! One thing my husband and I don't do without is good quality shoes. Before we need new shoes, we start scouting the clearance sections and watching for sales - then we buy the very best quality we can afford. We aren't hard on shoes, so a good pair of shoes will last us quite a while!
  • I cannot imagine having to pay that amount for healthcare. Thank goodness for our NHS here in Uk. It has its flaws like any system, but it is a marvellous service to have. Sending best wishes.
  • I thought I was the only one that feeds the squirrels watermelon!😂. Feeding the wildlife is one of my absolutes in the budget. They bring so much JOY!
  • @AWitchAndACat
I really appreciate what you said about everyone’s frugality looking different. What is important to one person may not be as important to another. I prefer to save up my money for books, vacations, high-quality kitchen ware, my cat etc. Others have other priorities. Thank you.
  • My husband and I really enjoy going to a movie now and then. We built in entertainment money into our monthly budget. If there is a movie that we want to see in person, we go on senior day, which is Tuesday. It is buy one get one free for seniors and is usually an early movie matinee, so we call it our day date. We usually eat lunch before we go and take snacks in with us if we want snacks. This usually makes the movie about $15 total and we do this usually once a month. We really look forward to these days and enjoy them immensely.
  • Love your genuine personalities, tips about good manners, and old fashioned goodness. :)
