Why Study the Pre-Nicene Christian Writings

Publicado 2013-07-03
Why should today's Christians study the writings of the Christians from the Pre-Nicene period (AD 75-325)?

Quotations from ancient writings might be paraphrased because many of them were translated in the 1800s. I have done my best to keep this to a bare minimum.

I am 59 years old and for the 1st time in nearly 40 years I am finally so overwhelmingly hungry to study what took place after the apostles went to heaven. Now I can finally discover exactly how living simply in my faith based on the truth really benefits my life and how it will allow me to share truth with the common man. I spent an entire generation deeply steeped in the Southern Baptist ways and the starch has slowly been washed out out of my mind and heart but not without great pain and suffering. Not only am I born again but my mind is being transformed and it feels wonderful to finally understand the truth of God's word the way it was originally intended. I will indeed continue to watch for all of your videos so God-bless you and keep up this good work for truth!

0:00 - What is the Ante-Nicene period? 1:50 - 1st Reason - Primary source for determining NT Canon 3:12 - 2nd Reason - Closeness to the Apostles themselves 6:58 - 3rd Reason - More details & insights about the unchanged Apostolic traditions, instructions & teachings (8:04 - Perspective on the reality of Ante-Nicene's proximity to Jesus & Apostles) 10:18 - 4th Reason - cultural proximity (temporal & geographical); yet confronted similar cultural/theological/doctrinal issues as we face today 12:54 - 6th Reason - idiomatic advantage (knew same language & its nuances) 13:36 - 7th Reason - theological advantage (one united church, not profusely pluralist like contemporary world) 15:51 - Recap & Summary

I have been a happy reader of Ante Nicene Fathers Vol 1 for a couple of years now. To see how Clement, Polycarp, Mathetes, and others understood our Lord and Christianity as handed down is simply amazing. I am glad to have learned of this channel and expect I will learn much and gain much joy from what is presented here.

Currently felt the urge to study Church history. And there are a few I’ve watched on the topic. But this channel is such a gem 💎. Clear, concise and full of Historical literature, from pre-Nicea 325 A.D. I wanted to study the first 3 centuries but could not find any, until now. Awesome work 🙏🏻✝️ Subscribed! and will be binge watching this channel vs. Netflix
