My favorite line: “Who needs a heart when a heart can be broken?” What a line that is, sung by Tina Turner!

Tina Turner's life story is very inspiring! She literally fought for her survival and emotional wellbeing. An overcomer and such a strong person! I love her raw voice and live performance energy.
  • I saw Tina in concert when she was 70. She was a dynamo for hours on that stage. I'm an 80s kid and just loved her.
  • Not only was Tina a great singer, who could croon, & rock the house down, she was the ultimate entertainer. RIP

Tina Turner didn't release her first solo record until she was 42 years old. She went on to dominate the charts for the next twenty years and to perform live into her seventies.(and they didn't need to prop her up)❤😊
  • @ijoxi
We need more! Tina is simply the best <3

We'll never see her again 😢 but we'll always love her. ❤️

I miss Tina... excellent lady and very happy in in her singing.
  • @squ34ky
I hear what you mean. The synths in this song complement her voice so well, especially the synth harmonica solo.

One of my best concert-going experiences was seeing Tina Turner during her Private Dancer tour. The energy and power she exhibited was amazing! She was in her mid-forties and the two teenaged boys in the row ahead of me were up with everyone else singing and dancing and yelling out her name in support.

I remember seeing this on MTV when I was like 5 years old. I knew in that first impression that she was a legend. It kind of left me stunned, her appearance and such a claim 'second hand emotion'.
  • Amy, your descriptions of music are so accurate and rich. As a musician/songwriter, you give me so much to use as I'm writing my own songs. Thank you for what you give to the world of music!
  • ❤ Amy.. you are sooo cool! This wasn't Tina's best song but you always find something good to speak to with everyone. You're truly a warm person. Love & best wishes from New Zealand ❤
  • Her version of Let's Stay Together is amazing to hear her vocal capacity, too! She's the Queen ❤
  • Another one of the best! So many of the great artist that I listened to growing up in the 70’s and 80s have passed away.

Tina was beaten literally but was never beaten up, her spirit was that strong. There were a few artists before Tina who, with music, broke racial barriers and there were many after Tina, but Tina put a personality with breaking this barrier. And she wasn't even trying. She took a soulful song but set in a Rock'n Roll beat by Creedance Clearwater Revival and showed the world how much soul that song really had packed and buried in it. Private dancer was a come back album and a "Ike is finally gone forever" album. In her mid 50's during a world tour, in interviews, her early 20's back dancers stated that could hardly keep up with Tina's dancing. I hope that her life and name remains a legend for decades and more. Amy, thanks as always for a great video and the song was the wrong choice for introduction to Tina Turner. But it's quite okay.

It's catchy and danceable. I could see it in a disco context. By the way, an excursion into disco might be interesting...

I am really glad that you enjoyed and appreciated Tina Turner and her voice. She has other some other good songs to check out, including with the Ike and Tina Turner Revue in the 60s and 70s, such as the cover of "Proud Mary" by CCR (Creedence Clearwater Revival), which would make for a good Great Covers weekend. Great commentary on her voice and how the music supports her voice. Tina Turner, including with Ike and Tina Turner Revue, provide a great blend of R&B and rock styles. Great reaction.
  • @styrelsefksu4463
Hi you should check out Tina's cover of Proud Mary, a song originally performed by Credence clear water revival aka CCR and written by their singer John Fogerty then compare the original with Tina's version
  • @jovana_r
It was so enjoyable listening to Tina's amazing voice and watching you liking it. 😊🖤
  • Oh Amy, I'm so happy you get to know Tina Turner. Finally you can feel how black and female artists had such a great influence on modern music. I suggest you get to know her life story because it's incredible. And you should also see a video of her because she conveys so much energy. She's a real lioness on stage. Now, Vlad, I don't understand how you didn't introduce Nina Hagen to Amy as she is one of the greatest figures of rock,n,roll of the 80's. I suggest Naturträne as an introduction track as it has a very operatic mood. All the best!
