Danny Elfman / Boingo Inspired: "Somebody's Following You" c 2024 Paul Santa Maria

Published 2024-02-10
I was a huge fan of Oingo Boingo the minute I saw them in 1980 on the HBO show "George Segal's Best Bets" - playing "Louise" and "California Girls" LIVE blew my head off. I wanted to take over the lead Vocal/Songwriter/Lead Guitar chair in Boingo when I heard Danny quit (I could sing all his parts, write in his veins and play my ass off on guitar) and so I wrote songs as demos for myself. Well, reader - that never came to fruition but I haver re-recorded all the tunes with today's tech and here's one.
` Pauly, 02/10/2024, the day the Beatles were supposed to play my hometown 60 years ago, and the day after the 60th anniversary.
The Lyrics:
"SOMEBODY'S FOLLOWING YOU"
c 1984/2022 Paul Santa Maria (ASCAP)

1) It's late at night and you're walking down the street
and somewhere behind you there's another pair of feet
Can't see in the dark -
Well should you cut through the park -
Watch out watch out watch out -
Somebody's Following You!

2) You're hubby's off to work and you're gabbin' on the phone
and suddenly you get the feeling you're not quite alone
Should you call out to your friend -
Well this could be the bitter end!
Watch out watch out watch out -
Somebody's Following You!

CH) Everywhere, people cry, it's not safe to live my life
But what good does you're cryin' do -
They won't go away
It's not fair, you might say, living in the world today
But one day you'll go anyway
and - Somebody will be following you!

4) It's early in the day and you're on the subway train
Hundreds of people but their eyes all look the same
Will he give himself away -
Or will he wait another day?

CH) Everywhere, people cry, it's not safe to live my life
But what good does you're cryin' do -
They won't go away!
It's not fair, you might say, living in the world today
But one day you'll go anyway
and - Somebody will be following you!

Seems more apropo for these days, as opposed to 1984, eh?
