Forgetting These Could Drastically Change the Way You See The World

As an old timer once said to me... "It only takes a second of stupid".... Thanks for the reminder for all of us.

I've seen experienced woodworkers get angry with people raising safety concerns. "I know what I'm doing!" "It's my risk to take, and none of your business." Stuff like that. So I really appreciate you sharing, and the way you shared.

As an optician, I have had patients get mad at me for reminding them of this. They do not have the expensive RX ones I make every day. Home Depot and Lowe’s sell them for less than $20. Even using a blower. Thank you for putting this out there.

I’m glad you did not sustain a serious injury. I spent over 40 years as a chemist working with REALLY dangerous things and we have it drilled into us that safety glasses are a must. Still, every once in a while you think “oh, this is not that bad/or quick so I don’t need them” and bang! Disaster happens. You reminding us all of this is really important. Everyone should remember that PSP should be on the top of your list always. That includes me. Thanks again Chris.

Good on you for bringing this out. Back in my machinist days, everyone who entered the shop was required to wear, at a minimum, safety glasses. If you get friends, family, or delivery visits during your work day, they too should be advised to always wear safety specs before entering the shop. My family used to sneak in and stand at the shop entrance waiting to catch my attention and/or not startle me while I was performing an operation. The entry to my shop is right in "kickback alley." So now PPE is required to even look inside the shop. It's hung on the wall outside so there's no excuse.

It's great that you're taking this seriously and not glossing over what could have been much, much worse. Thanks for the reminder.

Thank goodness you're okay!!! Really appreciate you sharing this because it reminds us all never to take chances and we've all been guilty of it one time or another.

I always+ wear my safety glasses in my shop, because I can't see well enough to do woodworking without them (they're prescription safety glasses), so that kind of thing couldn't happen to me, right? +Except when I don't. This is a great reminder that always really needs to be always.

Wow, you got lucky! That is exactly how fast it can happen. I have had similar experiences and it definitely scares the hell out of you. You may remember me telling you in the past that I am a Safety Professional and while I was working as a Safety Manager, I would push safety glasses all the time. That and complacency. Complacency happens to us all, that’s why work place injuries happen to so many people who are very experienced in their job. I would tell people that complacency won’t bite you until it does, you just never know. I am very happy that you were able to dodge that bullet. Thank you for doing a video on it, people need to understand the importance of safety.
