The Worst Jobs in History: The Middle Ages.

Tony Robinson discovers how fullers spent their working lives stomping on newly woven cloth in vats of stale urine, while leech collectors risked infection by wading into marshes and letting the bloodsuckers cling to their legs.

"im losing my will to live" the most relatable presenter yet
  • Love the steep decline from "Yeah, I'm really up for this! :D" to Tony standing there in the old cold piss, hardly moving, and losing the will to live. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Gotta love that he gives everything a go.

I love this guy. He did everything without thinking twice. Dude is a hero. Respect.

I have the feeling just being alive in the middle ages was the worst

So...during this period, not being able to afford medical care was a good thing.

I like how they try to stay in character when he asks "will it work" and some of them just can't deal and are like "fuck no it wont work"
  • @tubularfrog
I was on the floor laughing after Tony said "Give us a sting" and the nurse whacked his hand with the nettles. Such is the life of the knave!

Mike Roe: Wow modern dirty jobs are hard Tony Robinson: Hold my beer

This video is really interesting and I enjoyed learning all of this, but the sound mixing is really off and at times makes it hard to understand what's going on.

Tip: don't watch this while you're eating or about to eat. You'll thank me later.
  • tony gagging and heaving while pouring the stale pee into the buckets was the absolute best.

"He has to carve my meat ." "I beg your pardon?!" ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜…
  • After watching several of these, I believe that Tony Robinson must be one of the bravest and boldest men in modern times!! I love these programs...they're the best!
  • I recall watching the entire series, with my daughter, of this when it first appeared. Had a good laugh then & now. Another show that quickly takes the 'romantic' quality out of the era. I will say that Tony must have a pretty strong stomach, because some of the stuff is just down right stomach turning.

An eel was harmed in the filming of this video.

Kind of wonder who was the first to figure things out--like, who thought about using urine to finish off wool, or who decided tasting urine could diagnose someone, etc.

โ€œTheyโ€™re worms with character! The peak of worm evolution!โ€ he said excitedly.
  • @figs4531
did not expect to witness a live eel get its head cut off and see its severed head continue on wriggling afterwards.

I would love to be able to go back in history (and be invisible) and see not only the real history, but to also see how close we have been to knowing the truth about the different eras.
  • @Robocline
I'm not usually grossed out but the worm stew damn near did me in.
