Hey, guys. HiTop, HiTop Films here to talk about how I would Save The Sony Spider-Man Universe. Last time I talked How to Save The DC Cinematic Universe, maybe next time I’ll do How to Save The MCU.
Do I know what I’m talking about? Probably not… but after Morbius, after Venom, after No Way Home, there doesn’t seem to be a clear direction for Sony’s Spider-Man, Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.
Remember when Sam Raimi Spider-Man was one of the few Marvel franchises? This was a lot of fun compared to usual HiTop Films Video Essay, HiTop Films Spider-Man Video Essay.
Bring back Andrew Garfield Spider-Man. Bring in Miles Morales. Make Spider-Man 4 (in my dreams).
Let MCU Spider-Man do his thing. And please, stop making every villain film, every anti-hero film, a standard superhero film. Do something unique, something new.

Thank you all for your endless support…

  • I agree with Andrew for being the Spider-Man of Sony’s multiverse because he’s the one actor who has been screwed over and he deserves a second chance.

“You have Spider-Man, the greatest of them all.” This line is incredible. Out of all the Marvel characters, of all the great and amazing stories in Marvel, Spider-Man has always been the big one. In my opinion, he shares a special spot in the world of heroes, right alongside Batman and Superman. Those three are what many think of when you mention Marvel or DC. Edit: I forgot to mention Superman, whoops haha.

Just wanna say man as someone who's a moderate fan of all things marvel, and someone who didn't grow up reading comics, I get closer and closer to diving head first into the illustrated worlds of comics with every video I watch by you. Your passion is palpable and I love every second of your content.

Having Garfield return as an older Peter Parker and introducing Miles, both in a separate universe, is exactly the smart and exciting kind of thinking that Sony should be doing... which is exactly how we know they are never going to do it.
  • They gave AVI ARAD a big thank you in the credits of NWH But do you know who else deserves a big thank you? LAURA ZISKIN It was because of her and her partner (the screenwriter Alvin Sargent) that the original trilogy and TASM1 had depth Arad on the other hand just wanted to use the movies to sell toys
  • I blame AVI ARAD for destroying Sam Raimi's ambition He forced the inclusion of VENOM just so he could sell more toys

One thing that hadn't crossed my mind until seeing this video is the potential for andrew's spider-man. I've always loved the darker side of Spider-Man, and Andrew could definitely pull that off. One that carries a lot of sadness, makes bad decisions, and hits the ultimate low point to where you have to question if he's even worthy of the red and blue anymore. Spider-Man web of shadows will always be my favourite spidey game because it really tapped into that darkness Spider-Man can hold sometimes, will you choose to be the hero or do what's right for yourself?
  • The very first movie I TRULY remember seeing and EXPERIENCING in theaters is Spider-Man. The one that came out in 2002. It was a film that I think America really needed. The scene with all of the New Yorkers defending and helping Spider-Man, or Spider-Man ALWAYS in front of an American flag at some point usually during the final swing, might feel cornball to some younger audiences, but you need to remember the time frame and context of this movie....it's hard to explain an IMMEDIATE post 9/11 America to the Zoomers and Alphas. All they know is "well that's a HISTORICAL event that happened." and they live in a world that's always been post 9/11. They don't remember a time with the Twin Towers. But imagine it like having extreme anxiety just all the time, and you know WHY but you don't have a cure all for it. You can't really talk about it cause no one WANTS to talk about it how do you talk about the things you saw, the things you heard, the reason why what happened happened after all...But we just want to remember it and never forget what happened. Action films kind of died when 9/11 happened. That genre was effectively revived THANKS to Transformers 2007 and Iron Man. While Spider-Man helped comic book movies feel like they could be taken seriously, Iron Man helped them get into the spotlight post 9/11. When I saw Spider-Man in theaters, and still to this day, there's this sense of...I'm not sure what to describe, but SOMETHING with Spider-Man. I think it's maybe sheer willpower. He has more heart than I think any hero out there. Spider-Man is my favorite hero because....Spider-Man teaches you that you're going to screw up. It's going to happen, and it's going to be bad. But Spider-Man also teaches you that the only way to get through it is that you never, ever quit. It's not easy, but even if it seems impossible, you can beat anything that stands in your way. But it has to start with YOU. What YOU want to do. You can't do something because someone ELSE told you something inspiring. Sure Ben's words do inspire Peter, but only AFTER he made that bad decision. The only way Sony will be able to have their own universe with Spider-Man, is if they remember what makes Spider-Man....Spider-Man. He's not Batman. He's not Iron Man. He's sometimes part of a group sure, but mostly a solo act. And that's okay. Not everything needs to be connected. In fact the superhero film scene might be better off for it. Each Spider-Man story is so different so unique. Sam Raimi's Spider-Man is really a story about figuring yourself out. Andrew Garfield's story is one about loss and how to deal with loss. Tom Holland's story, is a story about growing up. Which at the core, is what Spider-Man is about; he teaches people what it's like to grow up. And when Sony remembers what and who Spider-Man is....that's when they'll be able to swing into the spotlight.
  • VENOM had the writer from 50 SHADES OF GREY MORBIUS had the writers from GODS OF EGYPT And now KRAVEN THE HUNTER has the writers from TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT Sony's cinematic universe is doomed to fail And all because of AVI ARAD
  • The reason why the original trilogy and TASM1 were memorable, was because of the producer LAURA ZISKIN It was because of her and her husband (the screenwriter Alvin Sargent) that the movies had depth She was the only one capable to tell AVI ARAD when to back off Unfortunately, she died in 2011, during the production of TASM1 Without her, there was no one to stop Arad from destroying the franchise Spiderman was nothing without her
  • @BenRigney480
Number 1: put Andrew Garfield back to work bc he fucking loves this character. He loves playing this character with his heart and soul, and cares about the script he's given. No Way Home was our wake-up call to how good Andrew is. Put him alongside Tom Hardy. Have a blast. Give him something substantial to work with. Make it a love triangle romcom between Eddy, Peter and Venom and make it as goofy but heartfelt as it should be.
  • Who knew "Spider-Man" would be such a seriously meaningful name for us. Imagine "Peanut-man" being said in a serious tone without a hint of laughing at that idea. In all seriousness, Spider-Man is the best superhero ever. Each story is so much deeper than it has an right to be.
  • You know this is just an excuse for him to gush on Morbius like everyone else
  • You brought up a good point, having Mile's story happen in the Sonyverse, we could have something reminiscent of how Mile's story wasn't originally in the main 616 universe, but in the Ultimate universe, and like how in the Ultimate universe Miles eventually ended up in 616. Miles could start out in the Sonyverse, and end up in the MCU.
  • @aelelrjamot
Having an older Peter Parker is something a lot of us want, we saw what it would be like with ps4 Spider-Man Andrew is in the perfect position for that
  • I feel like the best choice they can make right now is to move to the silver screen and make a Spider-Man story with the same amount of freedom and care as Daredevil. Each villain would have his time in the sun, a deserved backstory for them all and a chance to be as real and as different from the MCU as possible. That or just make an animated Spider-Man 4 or TASM 3...
  • @kedsarama
Although I hate on the MCU a lot, I can respect the work that went into crafting the entire universe of films, and I appreciate the risks they took early on. The problem that Sony has is that they want what Marvel has spent years building, but they continue cutting corners and taking shortcuts wherever they can, and it never works. Every other big budget, thrown together, failing "cinematic universe" created since the MCU has had this same issue. They want what Marvel has, but they don't want to take the risks or put in the work to actually get there.
  • Sony should let Phil Lord and Chris Miller in charge of their cinematic universe They can save it from AVI ARAD
  • @owen_asztalos
9:22 that was exactly my problem with NWH. The whole time I couldn’t stop thinking that I wished Marvel had given Tom’s Spidey an opportunity to face off against his own Doc Ock, Green Goblin, etc. It would’ve been nice to see his Peter develop his own personal relationships with those characters that would lead to them becoming villains, rather than to have them be imported from other universes.
