I love how people say the Wii U isn't talked about when it's mentioned in almost every video about Nintendo.

The reason why they won't do the plus-shaped D-pad is because you need the face buttons on each controller half. The left JoyCon on its own needs to function as an individual controller in its own right.

I would love to see framerate improvements be prioritized across the board on this new Switch and potentially the push for 120fps while docked.

I think they'll stick with the Switch format, as they usually did with the portables. We had GameBoy and then GameBoy Advance; later we had Nintendo DS and then Nintendo 3DS. So I think we may expect an evolution of the formula in this case. I also think that they still haven't explored the possibilities of having actual hardware in the dock. We could have some "modular" approach, with somekind of more powerful hardware being activated in the dock for the more demanding graphics that people want to see in big screens, and for portable mode we carry along a somewhat modest hardware that gets the job done. I don't know, but I would expect the dock playing a bigger role if they decide to evolve the Switch concept.

The + D-pad being absent in favor of 4 separate buttons is because of the gimmick of using each joycon on its side as its own controller. That way, the arrow buttons can also function as ABXY. Personally I'd prefer just... having a second controller.

Super Nintendo Switch with backwards compatibility is all I want.

the joycons are also designed to act as separate controllers. there is nothing to "correct" with the D-pad because trying to correct it, would make a brand new problem that conflicts with this intended feature of the joycons also being 2 separate controllers.
  • 5:09 I agree heavily, I want a Twighlight princess remaster for the switch or a new console so badly.

The reason it's 4 buttons and not a D-Pad is because some games use single joy-con for controller (Super Mario Part REQUIRES using single joy-cons in multi-player) and it gives a layout a bit similar to a SNES controller when put sideway

The reason the arrow keys on Joycon are not conjoined is to facilitate single-Joycon play. With a + Control Pad, you cannot push opposite directions simultaneously. Therefore, it cannot be used as ABXY action buttons.

This kept me watching to the end! So surprised youre a small channel! I subbed.

I hope there's always a portable console like the switch. Its so fun to just play in bed and feel comfortable

The reason the “dpad” is just buttons because when you turn the joycons into 2 separate controllers they can still be used as individual buttons

Loved the video. An idea for the SNS (super Nintendo switch/switch 2) could be that it comes with 4 Joycons and have the spare on the charging dock

The thing I really want to see on Nintendo's next console (in addition to the expected hardware refresh) is being able to cast to the TV while it's in handheld mode, essentially pulling a reverse Wii U. It can be backwards and forwards compatible. (can be used in the Switch dock and Switch can be used in its dock, just need both for the casting feature to work) It opens up a path to Wii U and DS emulation. And maybe some of those Wii U projects that were shelved due to low sales can be resurrected. (like that fully complete unreleased Ubisoft party game) All they gotta do is not fuck up the name again like with the Wii U. (I firmly believe the biggest problem it had was its name. People just didn't understand it was a whole new console and not just a tablet controller peripheral for the Wii.)
