  • On March 12, 1938, the armies of Nazi Germany crossed the border with Austria. The Anschluss. Hitler continued on to the capital - Vienna. When the convoy arrived 2 days later, the first thing Hitler did was to go to the Hofburg museum to confiscate what appeared to be a simple Roman spear head. This spear head was something that Hitler had coveted for a long time.

Imagine having this “spear of destiny” that you all actually believed in already.. and then u literally conquer half of europe in a few months. They or he must have felt invincible

Patton was not badly injured in the accident, he was murdered in the hospital, as happened to both Forrestal and McCarthy at Naval hospital in Maryland. Other than that an interesting doc.

Breaks my heart to see cities devastated by war. So much human effort and resources just obliterated along with the suffering imposed is difficult to witness.

I prefer the Pick of Destiny. If you know what that is, we can be friends.
  • @JediFarce
Watch the movie Constantine if you want to see what happened to the spear

I love these stories about the origins of the spear. I can't say i believe them but they are really interesting.

These docs about the Spear always miss several points that ,I think are integral to the story of the spear. Number one: what you see is not the spear of Longinus. In fact,it's not a Roman spear at all. 100 years before Christ was born Marius reconstructed the Legions and introduced the pilum. It was a long thin iron spear with a a head like an arrow or crossbow bolt. It was designed to pierce a shield and get stuck. The thin shaft would bend and trip up the oncoming soldier. So the wide blade that you see cannot be the kit of a legionnaire in the time of Tiberius. And what gave the spear its legend was when the Western crusaders had taken the city of Antioch, they suddenly found themselves besieged after a long fight to get in the city. After months of starvation and anxiety the heads of the crusaders were told by a "mystic" that he had received a vision from God that the spear of Longinus was buried here in Antioch. How much they believed him is debatable but people were known to have extreme beliefs in the middle ages. Anyway, after digging for a while and ignoring the 200K muslim soldiers just outside the gate. Sure enough this guy,(Peter) jumps out of the whole with a tiny piece of rusted iron, claiming that it was the spear of Longinus. The leaders of the crusader forces immediately rallied their armies and trounced Kerbogha's immense army despite suffering months starvation and went directly to Jerusalem and reconquered it from the forces of Islam. If you look closely at the spear in te museum, you can see that inside the golden leaf shaped blade there is a central iron spike that looks like a nail. I believe that is the original spear and all the gold and silver parts are just decorations added by later bedazzlers.
  • A well done documentary with high production values, fantastic experts, and an enthralling story. Bravo!

Patton believed in reincarnation. Patton claimed he had seen combat many times before in previous lives, including as a Roman legionnaire and as part of the 14th-century army of John the Blind of Bohemia. Thats is the other reason he went after the spear of destiny.
  • I remember my first introduction to Wolfenstein Spear of Destiny I played it when I was 8 years old I've been a huge fan of Wolfenstein ever since as well as Doom of course

Casca Rufius Longinus - The Eternal Soldier. Pierced Jesus with his spear so he could go out and gamble that night. Cursed by Jesus to roam the earth an immortal soldier until he rises again. The Casca novels by Barry Sadler is an excellent series to read.
