Chevrolet ripped up its own rule book when it came to the new Corvette C8 Stingray. A bold new look, a new chassis with the V8 positioned in the middle of it and a mission to take on the world's elite performance cars. So how quick is the new 'Vette? Steve Sutcliffe headed to Anglesey Circuit with his skid lid and stopwatch to find out.

Pretty darn good considering the tires it was on.
  • @JDSFLA
Compared to U.S. spec you are down 20 hp. and the sound seems more muted. I believe it is the European mandated particulate filter to blame. Still, fine performance and looks at a price no one else can touch.

Great lap time! Can't wait to see you lap the C8 Z06. That would be something else.
  • @marcusFZ6
I loved the new in-car footage for the hot lap. Need to do this for the other laps now.
  • Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires and some warm asphalt would get to that McLarens time, don'tcha think..?
  • To steve : this car looks like an american fighter jet and i like that ! Great looking car.
  • Z06 on Cup 2R tires would properly throw down the bang for your buck gauntlet.
  • @chbrules
I will be excited to see numbers from the Z06.
  • Worth mentioning with the times, that if you put it on a Cup 2 instead of a 4s you'd likely pick up another half second at least.

Yay! Steve!! I've always had a soft spot for the Corvette. I drove a few C4s and C5s and loved them. Not for the build quality (don't ask), not for the sophistication (Better than you think with a hydroformed chassis on C5 and that transverse leaf spring isn't as bad as you think), but for the way it made me feel when driving them. I love them.
  • Agree on the looks, which to my eye are trying a bit to hard to appeal to a younger demographic, but great lap time on PS4Ss
  • That's a fine benchmark for the BASE model, now time to see Z06 performance which will require 100% concentration to maximize its potential. Most owners can never reach this level.

Nice lap Steve and nice review! Quite the bang for buck as usual with a Corvette. I trust your comments more than anyone on earth. Cannot wait for you to get behind the wheel of a Z06!
  • The C8 owners manual provides numbers for track alignment. Was that adjustment made for this hot lap?

Steve is one of the greats! Love the over-the-shoulder view! 👍
  • Just placed my deposit on mine, MSRP $69k USD for mine in the US. Lovely car, great value.

Tycan and 991.1 Turbo performance below 3 digit$. Well done GM. I never imagined.

Corvette recommends track settings on it's fully adjustable suspension. This would improve the track timing substantially. Camber at the front needs to be increased from -0.5 to -3.0, and at the rear from -0.5 to -2.49. Tire pressure is recommended to be reduced by 6 psi at the front, 5 at the rear. The camber settings can be used for street driving as well but will increase tire consumption.
  • what is it with brits bagging on the c8 in weird non-specific ways "it looks like a my-first-supercar" "I wish it looked just a little less contrived" c8 looks great, come on
  • @DizzyMan24
Only .4 behind the Turbo S. Probably would have beat it had the track been in better shape. The Z06 will likely be top 3.
