How do you retire early? If you want financial independence early retirement, then stick around for our story and tips. Our dream to retire early, to retire at age 55 and become a travel vlogger around the world began many years ago. During a long career in manufacturing and raising 5 children, we never lost the dream of early retirement and world travel to go everywhere, see every country and enjoy our freedom years. We were influenced early by Dave Ramsey to achieve debt free living, a minimalist lifestyle, financial independence and got us moving toward life in early retirement. Later, we were inspired by so many young people doing the F.I.R.E. (Financial Independence Retire Early) movement. In today’s video we list our 5 lifelong tips that helped in retiring young and also our single biggest regret. We hope you find them helpful and will inspire you to follow your dreams of early retirement, retiring young and a retirement life of adventure and memories.

ABOUT US:

As the #retirementtravelers, we have always dreamed of traveling, but we never in a million years thought we would become #travelvloggers and start a YouTube channel. But, that is what we did! We work hard every day to become better and create something that others will enjoy. Having a community of friends, old and new, follow our journey is fun and exciting to us.

In 2019, we achieved our goal of visiting every state in the union in our Airstream. We also visited every national park in the lower 48. We are big believers in lists, so of course we plan to see the remaining 12 parks in the next few years.

In 2021, we made the big decision to extreme downsize to just a suitcase and a small backpack, each. We started our journey around the world beginning in Central America. We hope that over the next ten years, we will have seen many beautiful things, made many memories and new friends, and shared the experience with our children and grandchildren.

We hope you enjoy the journey with us. Drop us a note in the comments and be sure to hit

You two seem like such lovely, grounded, emotionally healthy and kind people. Wishing you much luck on your adventures.

I was an investment advisor and what I know is that most people do not know how to select an advisor. The first thing to do is to read some books like Automatic Millionaire, and the John Bogle books, so you understand the basics. Do not think that hiring someone means you can remain in the dark. I don’t mean your advisor would take advantage, I mean you will probably want to “buy high and sell low” because you don’t understand markets (and may not trust what your advisor tells you). Having the money is the reason this couple can travel, period. Money is your safety net, your independence, and your freedom. Be sure your investments are custodied at a firm you can call, and get statements from (cannot go wrong with Schwab, Vanguard, or Fidelity).

Great super grandparents. We were in Alaska this summer and met 2 sets of grandparents bringing their grandchildren to travel. One pair was so courageous to bring 7 grandchildren and they hired a private guide; the other pair was on our tour and they brought 2. Those two grandchildren were so happy and polite. They were having a grand time.
  • I enjoyed your video about retiring early. I just retired at 62, and I'm going to take your advice about downsizing. Down with "Stuff"!!!

You guys are great! I am a childhood cancer survivor and learned life can be too short. So, i made it a point to travel one year in the states, the next year out of if the country. I wouldn't change a thing. I retired at 58 and still travel the same way. Happy and safe travels to you both!!!

What I always tell young folks is. "It ain't what you make that matters. It's what you owe". As you said, living within your means is key. Retirement for us will occur in 2022, and we can't wait!!!! Great videos, John & Bev!

You need to watch The Long, Long Trailer with Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball. That one is so funny! Your story is so similar to ours. We have lived on a budget for 36 years, always below our means. We downsized our house 11 years ago but haven't had a house payment since 2005. Our girls each spent 7K on their weddings. My husband retired 2.5 years ago at age 57. For the last couple of years, we've been gone from our small home in Indiana at least 4 months every year. We love to travel and especially go to National parks.
