Great video thanks for your work although am little bit surprised you didn't put Nakanos ippon from the team event one of the best of the tournament

Uchi-mata-gaeshi is a Kodokan/IJF technique! This makes Uchi-mata the only technique with two counter techniques with their own name - Uchi-mata-sukashi and Uchi-mata-gaeshi. What I find even weirder than names such as O-soto-gaeshi is the huge number of almost identical techniques: Uchi-mata-gaeshi, Harai-goshi-gaeshi, Hane-goshi-gaeshi are all official Kodokan/IJF techniques, but are almost identical.

Sagaipov is Chechen and still trains in Russia. He just got Lebanese citizenship to compete as there were no spots on the Russian ahem “AIN” team.

Tushishvili's Osoto on Toth in team competition was great, worthy of mention I think. Sagaipov is from Caucasus region like a lot of competitors in Arab nations. Uchi-Mata-Gaeshi is also a classified technique actually, it's ashi-waza instead of te-waza like Sukashi.

Sagaipov used to play for Russia. He's not from Lebanon. A lot of Middle Eastern countries have Russian athletes playing for them nowadays.....
  • Isn’t uki waza throwing the opponent forwards, or diagonally forwards?

On the 1:35 minute u can see that Kostoev landed on his head with is a hansekomaky

Great video and commentary. I must admit I am "biased" towards Japanese judokas, so I love to see all their ippons. I think that they are going to succeed at the Olympics.

Really liked Kim's counter on that hugging situation where the opponent was bent in straight angle and hanging on the jacket then just sitting down on the mat. I feel like that's the only appropriate outcome. I don't know if it was Augusto's uchimata being off at every point and setup making it impossible to adjust to say harai goshi, or if it was just Smetov's excellent read robbing everything from his uchimata. The swinging leg deep in and down, dodging the leg as if ouchi gari, then lifting the elbow up to the sky. Fantastic read from Khyar, very judo like to notice the weight and balance change and take advantage from easily falling them. And seeing Hristov's bad ouchi gari attempt where he was just hung on the arm and had no control over the posture punished nicely by Dzitac, I was thinking "I like to see these hanging plays punished, but I wish we got to see the drop 'spamming' punished as well". And then you rolled in the clip of Herkovic beautifully punishing that very typical modern lazy drop. And seeing a proper newaza transition at the same time. I still wish throws were awarded points more scarcely if they're a hot mess and promote transitions to and punishes by newaza more. I'm in the Travis Stevens team when he reviews international matches and is baffled by some of the plays that would be so easily punished by quick newaza transition, but people don't even try them. I hope you make some sort of "expected winner/reigning champion", "challenger" and "black horse" introductions to judokas in the olympics in perhaps each weight category. Because I'll be honest I have no idea who are competing outside a couple of names and knowing people and their story or current year really makes it worthwhile and exciting to watch. They talked about that with weightlifting as well how the sport has trouble in that nobody's creating those narratives and story lines that make it really interesting for spectator sport side.

Sasaki is against drop seio. He says it damages knees. He prefers standing seio

Holy that "choke" was brutal by Wagner.
