i have this same exact microwave and i will never get rid of it. it is a testament to true quality craftsmanship, unlike the cheap disposable products manufactured today. Amana always has and will make a good quality product.

Back when things were made good. And, now, 30 years later, I bet it still works. At my house, we have a microwave from 1984. I can't remember the brand right now. I wanna say either Sharp or Sanyo. It rarely gets used, but, it still works. I'd actually rather use that one, instead of the Emerson we got last year. The only things I don't like about the old one is that there's no turntable and it takes a bit longer to heat things.

The microwave oven was invented in 1945 and the Rayeotheon company that makes the Amana microwaves was the first company to make it. The old Amana microwaves were originally called "Radaranges".

We have an Amana almost identical to yours. We purchased it in 1984 and it still works perfectly, never needed a repair. Only difference with ours is it's a Touchmatic with a touch panel for time, cook (power) level, temperature (for temperature probes) and digital readout. It will run forever. Only thing we noticed is the glass tray seems to become fragile w/age. Luckily I have found the tray at a local appliance repair shop.

we had a big old hotpoint microwave for years until it finally quit. it had a probe you could put in whatever you were heating so it could shut off automatically when soup or what ever reached a certain temp. i kind of miss that feature. lately i have the problem of getting stuff too hot or too cold. nice mic!!!! loving the bell!

Nice stainless interior. The old Littons which also were real popular back then usually had painted steel which rotted out around the door seal.

My parents had an old Amana from the late 70s until I was about 16. It was built like a tank! Accept it didn't have dials. It had push buttons I believe. It was almost the same model as this one in your viideo. It had the same push button starter buttons at the bottom like yours.

The West building is an office building named for the businessman W.W. West in Midland, Texas. I have heard about the Amana colonies and I remember getting a catalog one time which had smoked hams and other food products from them.

We had a microwave from 1979 up until about 8 years ago. It weighed about 70 pounds, and was sweet with big chrome knobs, but it shot lighting bolts at the food, spattered it all over the inside, and burned it!

I have confirmed that it does spin freely and doesn't hang up on the grease guard.
  • theres a lady here in town that has 2 of the radarrange microwaves n the one i was able to see was from 1972 i think n it did work

We had an old Radarange when I was growing up. It had to be late 70's early 80's. It had a all digital face though
  • @retrochad
OK, I didn't think about the stirrer! I used it again today and everything did come out heated evenly, no hot spots.
  • @coolbluelights
"Radarange" very true to its name ^^ I have a 1986 Wards digital microwave, we've had it since new, never any problems! it doesn't have a turntable either, it's got a stirrer in the top
  • @rmx77
my aunt has one from the 70's and she still uses it to this day and its one of the first digital control ones as well
  • @retrochad
The other heat choices are Defrost and Slo-cook. The topping on the pie is Oats.
  • @danielthechskid
If the foam rots out the air won't flow through the cavity properly, and since the stirrer is turned by the airflow it won't work properly either.

I used professional Amanas in my buuiness back in the 90s and they were good. Before Amana, we used Litton until it went out of business. (70s - early 90s).
