My mother had one of these, and it lasted over 20 years. It weighed a ton!
  • We had one just like it. I was in grade school around 1974 and I came home and there it was on the countertop. It was a Friday. We learned we could cook a hotdog in ONE minute, and we were so excited we did that all weekend. We learned fast to pierce it first with a fork (so it wouldn’t explode) and cover it with a paper towel. 🙂

My great aunt had a microwave of similar vintage, but it was only 250 watts or something crazily low compared to what's available nowadays. When the thing broke in 2005, she upgraded her microwave to a 1000 watt unit. She tried cooking her favourite fish recipe and ended up nuking the thing to a shrivelled crisp because she failed to adjust the timing or power levels.

The first time I used one of those was 1971 and I was in college. They had refrigerated vending machines and Amana microwaves. I bought a hot dog and overcooked it, it looked like a tootsie roll...

There is NO WAY that anything on that table was made with that microwave oven. Especially that perfectly browned turkey.

Now most are 1600 watts. And since we can't put any metal inside, how did it work with a stainless steel interior?

Adjust title, it's "Radarange" "radar" and "range" share the same "r"
