Olympus are SO underrated. Weather sealing, ibis, touch screen... so many features that are more premium except for the sensor size. Last time I checked the glass wasn't as affordable as I thought though.

I loved hearing you talk glowingly about the Nikon D7100. I shoot with a Z8 and D850. The D7100 has been a stout backup. If an innate photograph is extraordinary, the D7100 will not diminish it.

What matters the most is what system you want to buy into and what is the upgrade path. Canon, NIkon, Sony, Olympus, Fuji, are all good...And all are leaning into "content creation" over "art" these days too.
  • Good video... I would also include the Olympus OMD EM10 mk2, very small and great features.... Also the Olympus EM1, as a professional grade camera has a magnesium body, in camera focus stacking and very cheap accesories like a battery grip, even though I have for more modern cameras it is still the first camera I pick up when going out.

Ever since I have been using a shift lens with an adapter that moves the sensor behind the lens but not the lens, my panorama image always stitch together seamlessly.

Love Olympus and micro 4/3. Idk why they're so much more fun to use!

I recently got a good as new Samsung NX300 with the 16-50mm powerzoom lens and I really enjoy it. A fun little snapper and relatively compact and I like colours this samsung produces! Nice to mix it up with my Olympus EM5 Mark II and Lumix LX100 which are great to use with their great tactile controls but sometimes it's nice to have something as basic as the NX300.

I added the G100 to my MFT cameras last year, got a great deal on a brand new one with the tiny kit lens. I really like it for how light and compact it is and it’s perfect for daytime hikes. Lack of IBIS means I still take the GX80 out more, but for well lit situations where you want small and light the G100 is perfect.

Another benefit of the Nikon D7100 is it has the sprocket that old Nikon autofocus lenses require as they don’t have built-in autofocus motors. I think the D7200 was the last enthusiast Nikon DSLR to include that sprocket. I don’t know when or if it was removed on higher end bodies.

waded through this, interesting it ended up with the camera i am trying to replace. i think the camera ( D7200 in my case) is great, but you could have said the D7500 that probably being the last of the line. it is the photographer ( me) that sometimes asks too much. and the lack of a really fast 500 mm equivalent lens.

I'm currently using my Lumix G-81 as I'm starting to get back into video and photography - even though I'm constantly fighting the thoughts that I'm too late being almost 26 right now - i surely want to follow my passion and someday make a living from doing videography

I, myself, own a Fuji x-t20, is around 400-450 euros, the camera works great and is extremely fun to shoot if you want a more tactile experience (I consider that the results are not the only important thing in photography, enjoying the process is a huge part of it). Let's not forget about the fuji film simulations, the colors are gorgeous, I mainly shoot jpegs. The lenses, I think are a bit more expensive than sony or canon ones (didn't do a lot of research on this topic)
  • @TsujoyiMakotto
As a beginner, im planning to buy a Canon r50 for my first camera, is it a good or bad idea?
  • @samwang5831
If you use the camera for wildlife or sports, M43 is definitely worth considering because the combo weigh much less and the lenses are more affordable. The trade-off is that you give up some image quality if you pixel peep or crop heavily
  • @Neeverseen
The Fuji X-T20 is also around 300 bucks on ebay. Got mine in mint condition with the great 18-55 premium kit lens for 600€. Upgraded from a Sony alpha a6000.

On April 10, 2024 MPB sells Lumix DC-G100 well above the price mentioned in this video - 384-414 Euro...

The NEX-6 was my only mirrorless camera for 9 years! Great option where “budget” doesn’t mean “basic”. My mini-review and some tips: PROS: Light and durable! This is all magnesium - many a6*** models use more plastic. Lovely controls and ergonomics Shoots good RAW. PDAF and basic face detection. Nice viewfinder and hood even though resolution is low. CONS: “W” battery life is just OK. High ISO noise looks bad. Buttons not super customizable Best video quality is in AVCHD format (don’t buy this for video.) Picky about USB chargers Loud shutter TIPS: Take advantage of Sony’s older OSS lenses! 16MP doesn’t require 2024 sharpness. Kit lens still not great. 50mm 1.8 OSS is excellent wide open. Make sure the grey control wheel (under PASM knob) functions correctly.
  • @Strokkkk
I would also suggest Canon M100, in favor of M3, as M100 is bit newer (its lighter, has DIGIC7 processor, Dual Pixel AF), only downside, is has less dials and grip is not great (but you can get around this by buying from ebay a small silicone hand grip, I did that on mine, and it's perfect)
  • @itsROMPERS...
So if i like two cameras, is there any really practical reason i should prefer apsc over mft? Obviously a larger sensor is "better", but aren't there good lenses available for much cheaper with mft, with mft image quality being pretty acceptable for all but giant enlargements?
  • @alexmirza5210
I have a D7100 and it has plenty of fast focus points and focus is accurate with nikon brand lenses too. Plus it's quite high dynamic range.
