Venezuelans are voting in an election which could lead to a seismic shift after 25 years of socialist party rule and a devastating economic crisis.

President Nicolas Maduro is running for a third term. His main opponent is Edmundo Gonzalez - a former diplomat backed by a coalition of opposition parties after their chosen candidate was barred from running. But many fear the vote won't be fair.

  • Cathy Newman of Channel 4 News deserves strong condemnation for her poor questioning on Jan 16, 2018. Cathy: we want balanced, civil dialogue and not your bias and provocative statements. Shame on you, Cathy.

  • Why is it bad when millions of Venezuelans leave Venezuela, but good when millions of non Europeans flood into Europe every year?

  • I was lucky enough to visit Venezuela when I was a kid and before things had started going seriously wrong. Such a beautiful country and everyone was incredibly friendly. It makes me sad to see what has happened since Chavez lost the plot and the country fell apart.
