Mack, this past weekend I cleaned out my parent's hoarded garage; it was so bad my mom could barely get in and out of her mid-size SUV. I cleared 25 years worth of junk, old furniture, trash and any rodents and their waste. Since the garage is clear, I now have a proper place to store moose and even practice spin kick techniques! You and Barbie kick started my brain into getting this project done. I now realize what you mean when you talk about the impact of cleaning for other people; after I cleaned, I could see the massive mental weight lifted from my elderly mothers shoulders. I will keep the momentum and clean other hoarded areas of the house - If I could, I'd record it. Thanks for what you do; If you happen to expand or need help with a cleaning in Minnesota, I'd be glad to assist.

Maybe let her know that local animal rescues and shelters are always in need of blankets and towels! Having a cause to support while minimizing might make it easier for her. Just a thought!
  • You are a blessing...wish you were in my area. The husband is a hoarder, had a stroke...well has several is on a rehab facility. I started to purge not knowing where to even start. Lost my steam and am at a standstill. We are seniors so it's very overwhelming for me. Ive been trying to take care of everything myself. The children won't help because they are afraid their father will be pissed if and when he's able to come home. I am on a position I don't care I want a clean unhoarded house. There's no mouse poop or expired food just his hoard. He collected everything thinking it will be worth something one day. I'm on a fixed income so can't even afford to get a dumpster to throw the stuff out. I did fill over 20+ bags of clean clothes that I washed and donated to salvation army. There's still sooo much more. Instead of washing his clothes he would just buy new. And now there is way too much. And no room for them and the rest of his hoard. God bless...and am praying to get my steam back so I can continue.
  • It is so rare for a yak to be accepted in a moose herd. It would be like a hippie accepted into a herd of crew cuts. Doesn't happen often but when it does the hippie(yak) is totally cool, probably the leader.🙂

Everyone needs a pair of good butt pants

Honestly the thing that surprises me the most is the amount of Moose stuck in these homes.

Honestly, what would be really cool is a free cleaning network - a website or even facebook group where cleaners can post areas they tackle and people who need help can request it - anonymously or publicly with optional photos.

Firstly I want to wish Emily all the best for the upcoming op and hope she makes a speedy recovery. I'm glad this family asked for your help before the floors gave way. Now they can get a plumber in and fix the plumbing, and hopefully address their mouse problem too!
  • Growing up in a hoarder house as a kid I would get chronic respiratory infections. Once I grew up and moved away and had my own place to live (that I kept clinical levels of clean) I haven’t had those same issues since. I had to explain to my parents that yes, in fact, my respiratory issues were very much the result of the home we lived in.
  • This episode brought back memories of my grandmas house. She always had too much food in the house and a lot was outdated. I always thought it was because she lived through the depression. If they thought something could be used again they kept it.

I enjoyed your comments about prioritizing aspects of a project. "don't let perfect be the enemy of good" is a quote from...someone....that Ive always really liked.
  • Imagining you crawling down grocery isles on all fours hissing and clawing the air like a feral cat 😂😂😂 priceless.

Praying🙏 for your wife that all goes well with her surgery

Prayers for Emily and all the medical staff that will be helping her.

So often we realize that "it" has gotten out of control, but now it intimidates us and causes us to be frozen from doing anything! Thank goodness for people like you and all you do.
  • Mack, my husband always says "I'm wanted in ten states, and NOT WANTED in 40 others!"
  • @greenbriar07
I'm playing this while I clean out my place, and I just wanted to say thank you. Might seem silly, but having a team of cleaners working in the background has been my motivation to keep going these past few months. Dumping out the trash, old and parting with unused things from my house has taken years. I'm glad people reach out to you for help, as the whole process is intimidating to start!

I actually felt the statement "Every household needs a leader" I have become that in my household, assigning tasks or chores to my sister and dad, in order for the house to stay tidy. We are not at a hoarding level thankfully but we do get cluttered easily and I have to assert leadership to maintain cleanliness. If no one takes charge then nothing gets done (at least in my household).

Thanks for shouting out Fife free cleaning again, I think they are great! All the best from a Scottish viewer ❤
