Leatherface was the OG dead by daylight killer. He was using hooks before hooks were cool

This movie has one of my favorite first kills. It's mid day and the sun is shining, Kirk makes an all too real small stumble and runs directly into the killer. It doesn't just cut away after one blow, we see him get brutally beaten down and then that metal door slides shut. It's so removed from modern jump scare kills and it still strikes a nerve to this day.

I love Leatherface’s first appearance. There’s no buildup to a “monster,” no tension, no suspenseful music. It just happens. Which in its own beautiful way, makes frightening.

Fun fact: You cant just start up a semi truck, theres a short order of operations when doing so and the time it would have taken them to start it was seconds they couldnt afford. Thats why they didnt just start it and drive off.
  • Leatherface: firmly grasp it. (Hammer falls) Leatherface: firmly grasp it. (Hammer falls) Leatherface: FIRMLY GRASP IT !!!!!
  • That final scene wasn't Sally's glee. It was her driven insane. No one actually survives this movie. Sally remains alive but she is never the same.
  • Fun fact: The scene where Leatherface cuts Sally's finger is 100% real as they couldn't get the fake blood to work and many other actors described working on the film as an absolute nightmare.
  • something i just realized watching this (again) is that Leatherface steals Pam's bracelet. When you look at Pam's wrist at 10:31, she has a bracelet on her right hand with bells on it. Later at 11:13 when she pops out of the freezer, its gone. A moment later at 11:26, you can see it on Leatherface's left wrist.
  • The shot where leather face grabs pam like a toddler and her arms and legs are just flailing in the air is so iconic and terrifying. Like imagine being picked up by a giant psychopath like a child and being dragged to your doom with no escape apparently in reach. chills

i found it really heartwarming that all of genres, the people behind "gross, scary slashers" are the most lovely people

The semi truck driver running away is absolutely funny as hell
  • I’m a psychosis patient. Someone who deals with hallucinations and delusions on a daily basis. Though some are as simple as hearing a knock on the door, some can cause me to spiral out of control, with manic mood swings, paranoia and sleep deprivation. This however never causes me to cause harm to someone else, and I used to implode instead of explode. I’m glad you spoke about the idea that mental health suffering humans are more likely to implode and be a victim, rather than explode as a perpetrator. It’s something pretty rare in films. If someone saw my symptoms on paper, they’d probably be at least a little afraid to be left alone with me due to the media representation, even though I’m not a danger to others and have never been deemed as such.

Fun Fact: The reason why gore is so limited is because Tobe Hooper actually wanted a PG rating believe or not but after getting the X rating multiple times he gave up and accepted the R rating
  • @GraceToo_
Fun fact: Gunnar Hansen didn't want the actors to see him dressed as Leatherface until each actors scenes were shot so they would give genuine reactions to seeing him for the first time
  • @sledzeppelin
The sickening sound Sally makes when she hits the ground after jumping out of the window is perfection. What a masterpiece.
  • @aracystic28
I decided to watch this because I’ve been OBSESSED with the Texas Chainsaw game. I’m honestly impressed with how much this movie influenced the game. Like literally THIS movie. Lmao.
  • @alirogers1201
As someone in the mental health field, I appreciate that it was pointed out that most people with mental health concerns are more likely to be the victims of violence than the perpetrators. This is one of the most difficult parts of horror movie tropes.
  • @nopelol883
Fun fact: did you know that the creators of the movie actually hid leather face from the cast to get a real reaction out of them, which means it was the first time any of the cast seen him. Edit: If you watch their faces they are genuinely terrified.

i remember watching this movie for the very first time and the dinner scene felt like it lasted over an hour. i wasn’t scared at all watching this movie, but i couldn’t sit still when i was watching it. the suspense and unsettling nature made me think about it for days. fantastic movie
