I feel like Next gen has more similarities to Bumblebee than Big hero 6
  • I would argue that 77 learned morality basing off his preexisting priority of Mai’s happiness and extending that to humanity as a whole.
  • I liked Mai—it’s unusual to see such a dark side of a young protagonist in an animated movie. She may not have learned to give love very well (except for befriending the bully) but c’mon you guys, do you know how long it would take for someone like that to change? The thing that stands out the most to me in Next Gen is that 77 never once gives up on Mai, and continues to be kind to her, no matter how she treats him. This is the most effective way to soften a cold heart, and is just so beautiful to watch. 77 is an insanely good role model, in that sense. I also think that the reason he was so compassionate is that it was already programmed into him to save the world, right? I honestly think he didn’t really notice all the destruction he caused at the beginning, he was just so focused on his task. Anyways, I can see why some people didn’t like this movie, but I loved it. Possibly, Iron Giant and Next Gen are tied for me, but BH6 comes close third. And Astro Boy is another good robot movie IMO

The climax of Next Gen is one of the best in animation history.

Okay, I seriously agree with this so much!!! I didn't like Mei, I could sympathize with where she was coming from but she still wasn't really likable. I did like Hiro a bit more, but honestly the robot characters were far more likable in both movies. Funnily enough in Next Gen I think I liked the antagonist the best, I just found what they did interesting, very dark, but interesting. Iron Giant is definitely the best out of the three though, especially for characters. I know I've already suggested it, but I love both the robot and main human character in the movie TAU, so I still definitely recommend that one. Either way, super excited to see there are more of these!!!

I loved Big Hero Six, so when I saw trailers for Next Gen I couldn't help but make comparisons and dismissed it. Now I might have to check it out. And yes, Iron Giant is an underrated classic, I've watched it so many times and still appreciate new aspects of it. It is one of the best human/robot relationships in film.

I like how both movies showed us the importance of having loyal, supportive friends and family. Hiro is extremely lucky that his brother's friends stuck around and actually cared about him way after Tadashi's death. Mai was not as lucky because she got bullied a lot and was neglected by her mother. And then on top of that, her father left and ended up passing. That is just so much more emotionally damaging because Mai really was alone for a while. But when 77 came into the picture, that's when things started to change. I actually like both movies because I resonate with both characters. I resonate a little more with Mai though because of my childhood trauma.

Right before we started watching this video, my husband asked, "Have they done Iron Giant?" So we were super excited to see this. So much win.

Aries, is undoubtedly the most awesome bot despite his evil status. I could really imagine him being by my side, even if he was still delusional or self-righteous.

Iron Giant is such a great movie, and i agree with you on the problems of Big Hero 6, i got difficulties to get attach to the humans as they were a bit one dimensionnal. One of the robot i'm waiting to see on your channel is Number 5 from Short Circuit!

Regarding Next Gen, if I recall correctly 7723 begins showing concern for their destructive antics when Mae attack her bullies. Arguably, this concern arises as an emergent property of consciousness. So it's not Mae he's learning from, but rapidly picking up on the comparable emotional distress Mae is in as a victim-turned bully and seeing the devastating consequence of mercilessly bullying others.

Maybe robot buddies are attractive because we can treat them like crap and still be valued by them? Wow! This was really insightful. You got past the surface level. I hadn't really noticed how Hiro treated people til you pointed it out.

Of the two I enjoyed Big Hero 6 better. Next Gen was a bit out of a let down for me, it just checked all the box expected of it. Oddly I feel most let down by Next Gen despite it randomly appearing on Netflix. Excited to watch it, even as the trailer was playing, I was begging it not to rely on old tropes, but it still did. Where as Big Hero 6 at least surprised me in certain ways. Especially that Baymax is a health care robot. As pointed out it's one of those most realistic robot types, but more often robots are designed as weapons. So to see Baymax be designed to heal was a nice change of pace in that regard. Even if they do turn him into a weapon later. It's a bit ironic but Hiro's brother had more depth than he did. I would put it 1. Iron Giant. 2 Big Hero 6. 3. Next Gen.
