“Stand straight... This part is important This moment was created for you.” I love that line from Thorkell so much

Why Thorfinn went back after looking at the bird is kind of linked to this quote: "I always wonder why birds choose to stay in the same place when they can fly anywhere on the earth, then I ask myself the same question." So the idea is Thorfinn wanted to be there.

The images and the end are a teaser, they are characters you didn't meet yet but manga readers know pretty well who they are.

And that is the end of the prologue. This episode is titled the same as it is in the manga and it was brought to life very well in the anime, legendary visuals and voice acting

Askeladd didn't teach Torfinn a lesson. Episode 22: Am I a joke to you?

Marketa still not giving Askeladd the respect he deserves

Favorite anime of 2019 askelad is a character that will always stay with me i loved his development

Askeladd raised Thorfinn and made him into more of a man than ppl give him credit for. It wasn't all just teaching fighting skills. I think in Thorfinn's pleading for them to run away or for Askeladd to survive, there was more than just a disappointment of not killing Askeladd himself. He not only lost his self prescribed reason for being, but also yes, a father figure. I think they do sprinkle enough hints of this for what the anime covers, but (SPOILER territory) the manga STRONGLY reinforces that Thorfinn thought of Askeladd as a second father in later chapters.

"That'd be a Very Bold Move" Now this, put's a smile on my face.
  • In the dying shot of Askladd where Thorfinn is holding him, the backgound is faded out in a white background. That's literally the same shot as when Thors was dying standing in Episode 4. Also, did people not see how sad Thorfinn was at Chad-ladd's death? Of course, there was hatred and anger and all the other emotions, but there was also profound sadness that Thorfinn was feeling. Not to mention that Thorfinn finally drops his blade, literally and figuratively, upon Ladd's death. And Chad-ladd didn't give him any lessons???? Come'on Marketa - that entire last monologue telling Thorfinn to not be stuck at such a damn boring place, going beyond where Thors went, describing Thorfinn's real fight, and telling him to become a true warrior (like Thors and Canute) - if this is not fatherly, then I don't know what is. Conclusion: Dad-ladd was very definitely a father-figure to Thorfinn

And this is why this should've been AOTY and why Askeladd should've got best antagonist. If Vinland was mainstream it would've made a big impact
  • @VADYCAN
Askelad best antagonist of 2019, although I’d say Askelad was the protagonist of this season and Thorfin was just the main character
  • @DreadedLad88
Thorfin definitely lost a second father, without ever processing the first loss. Super satisfying story... Even into the manga..

Gotta love Marketta womansplaining the relationship of boys with their fathers.
  • Askelad did what he dd the entire show to remove king sweyn and replace him with a worthy king,he sacrifice d himself for the betterment of the world, thor's and thorffin just were caught up in it,he still spared thorffin and taught him to be a wolf like the intro, he came from humble beginnings he hated power crazy kings, rewatch episode 3+4 he even asked thor's to be the leader, but when thor's said no with his eyes ,he laughed and pretended it was a joke so he wouldn't lose respect from his crew, they were speaking code the entire time that only the leaders can ,this show takes watching at least twice especially the first 4 episode's
  • @dariusradu2369
Up next, Thorfinn plays Farm Simulator 20 for a whole season 😂
  • @whoisthis2004
A bit info to help you understand: in Roman tradition, the family name is in the middle, so all of askeladd's ancestors have artorius in their names. His mother gave him Lucius and Castus as his given names, the same ones as what Artorius in the legends had.
  • Askelad absolutely did raise throfinn, regardless of if they had a classic and cheesy “father son relationship” thorfinn legitmately learned everything from Askelad. Also if you think that thorfinn was only upset about that his kill was stolen, you were not paying attention to the scene
  • @poi1658
Father figure, is not the same as father nurturing behavior. Can't expect Askelad to baby Thorfinn, can he?
