Are we running from real life? No ma’am… in my opinion, we are running FOR our lives! 😂

It isnt escapism. Its the need to live your life without the stresses of the US and quality living . Having access to real food is crucial as well as great medical care. The list is long.

I don’t care if it is. Escapism is survival at this point.

My job let me know today just how little they value me. Escapism or not, it’s time to go, for so many reasons..
  • We as Black Women have NEVER engaged in escapism. We have always had to not only face, but battle, overcome, and redefine our role in dealing with REALITY. We can't live a fantasy and we wouldn't if given that. We SEEK RELIEF from racism, police brutality, and other outgrowths of a sick society. We are free to choose a better life and go where we can find that!! Thanks Stephanie this came at a great time !
  • I'm triggered every time I hear that statement "wherever you go there you are". i agree with you Stephanie, let's get out. Period!! Some of us are pushing/encouraging folk to fix their issues first. You don't tell a drowning person to wipe their nose before you pull them out the water. Fix it when you get out. Get some help in a safe place.
  • Escapism for me was when I have to beg for 5 days off to go on vacation and cry every time I’m back and have to go to work with last week’s work pile. Planning my final goodbye hopefully in a few years, then it won’t be escapism but reality! HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEAUTIFUL 🎉🎉🎉❤

I must admit...as an immigrant from Guyana growing up in Brooklyn...I was conditioned to think that when I didn't see other black people (specifically Black Women) working as hard, that they were lazy. I don't think that sh!t anymore. According to a recent article in Forbes magazine, Black Women are the most educated group of people in the U.S. however one of the least underpaid. That's right! We need to get the hell out of America, out of toxic jobs, out of toxic relationships, out of toxic situations that are not safe, not affirming or celebratory of all the magic that we can bring. Escapism....PALEEEZE CHILE -- It is survival!
  • It’s a BETTER QUALITY OF LIFE, In My Case. I’m HAPPIER, HEALTHIER and Living My Best Adult Life! Been Living This Life For About 10 Years . I Have A Gorgeous Apartment By The Ocean, a Balcony Overlooking The Stunning Ocean and Get Health Boosting Benefits From Ocean Waves and TALL PALM TREES!!! I Feel Fortunate and Grateful For Being Able, Being Empowered Enough To Go Get The Life I Wanted! I Also Have The Economic Freedom To Travel Around, If/When I Want. Praise Be!💙 I WISH YOU A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Stephanie Perry! THRIVE ON PURPOSE!🌹xox
  • Why what is accepted as other people's life options deemed as "escapism" for US?? 🤔 And WHY do we even feel we have to justify our life choices in the first place? We need NO ONE to cosign the lease on our joy. Let's please break the ⛓ of limited conditioning. HAPPY BDAY STEPHANIE!🎉
  • Happy birthday Stephanie, May God bless you with many more. I am a black woman born and raised in America. I am getting tired of America and it's systematic racism. I am thinking about moving abroad myself. Here in America, not only are we dealing with white people's racism, but we have to deal with the prejudiced and internalized self hatred from black people. It is so sad that we have become our own worst enemy. As black women in America, we don't like to see each other getting ahead in life. We don't even want to see each other with nice clothes on or having our hair done. As black women, we are damned if we do and damned if we don't. Moving abroad doesn't sound like a bad idea. I am giving some serious thoughts about it.
  • Listen ...the way this country is going we need to consider an ESCAPE in the most literal sense.

Putting myself first, requires me to move abroad. 👩🏽 💫 💜

Escapism is real. It's easy to move to a country that you aren't affected by the defects in their government because you don't rely on their government for food, support, taxes, etc. If I moved somewhere and completely assimilated by getting a job there, raising my kids there, paid taxes and got healthcare there, then my perspective of that place may be different. Sometimes when we travel, because we can't understand the language, the crime isn't reported the same, then the dangers or issues we left may be unknown because ignorance is bliss. I believe moving, seeking, exploring is something we owe ourselves, but realize that as an expat, you have the best of both worlds - which is much different than if you were born in the place you are enjoying the benefits of without having to tap into the things that people born there may not like.
