    Needed to hear this today, thanks. Whenever I get stuck and don't move up on weight/reps/sets, I always consider "what's wrong" and consider making x,y,z change. But then it's these messages from experienced lifters that remind me to have patience. True plateau is many weeks of ZERO progress whereas plodding, slow, boring progress is what you SHOULD expect (as you say). And that means occasionally missing progress WoW but hanging in there anyway and having faith in the process. Gainz shall come to he who waits. Thanks for this.

    The one exception for me was on benchbpress. When I'd switch to dumbells for a few months and come back to barbell, my barbell would be much stronger. Changing variations on bench press somewhat frequently always brought up my strength significantly. But, for back, quads, hams, etc, sticking with the same exercises for a long time was always the best method.

    This was extremely enlightening to me since I startred my PPL program Feb 1 and have only just started to see progression on my flat barbell bench and incline bench over 3 months into it. I think I need to stick to the program and keep grinding for another 3 months because I'm finally in that golden zone where I'm truly pushing for progress on that lift. Everything else has been going up, so I think that's just the first "stall" while I catch up on the others 😬

    I can't love this enough. I get angry and laugh at the same time when I see trainers advertising an 8 week program or a 12 week hypertrophy plan on instagram. It does my head in.

    I love this video topic, Faz. It's so fundamental to learn that true progress is slow. I like to think of it as allowing for enough time that the muscle growth is there.

    great insight, I've never really thought about this or even heard anyone on youtube say this, that im aware of. Seems like so many people encourage changing programs every 12 weeks or so, but in reality grinding to make progress in ability leads to the progress in physique and strength most are after
  • Great video coach! I definitely haven't been in the golden zone enough. In my teens and early twenties, I was, as you describe, fucking around too much, changing things too much and not working hard enough. Mid twenties I had a couple of good years in the golden zone and saw good progress, but then injuries came and fucked things up. Hope that now the last 3 years of my thirties will only be in the golden zone 😉
